Damian Priest had to remind himself to stay in character during Bad Bunny’s entrance at WWE Backlash 2023

It was one of the wildest things Priest has ever seen.

The latest Premium Live Event that WWE presented was Backlash from Lyon, France. The crowd in attendance was spoken highly of by wrestlers on the show and executives who were present for it.

The 2023 Backlash P.L.E. emanated from San Juan, Puerto Rico and one of the matches on the marquee was Damian Priest versus multi-time Grammy Award-winning artist Bad Bunny.

Squared Circle Pit welcomed Priest onto the platform and as he was looking back on the event, he stated that Bad Bunny’s entrance was one of the wildest things he’s ever seen. Priest had to remind himself to stay in character.

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened (almost slipped out of character during Bad Bunny’s WWE Backlash entrance). I had to be like, hey, cut it out. Stay in it, stay in it… I’ve been in the crowd where you could feel the floor shaking a little bit and whatnot but being in the ring, you don’t really feel the tremble. You don’t really feel that. But I felt it that night. That was wild, in his entrance and I got goosebumps while I was in the ring waiting for him and then but I had to keep a straight face, you know? Angry or whatever but, that was one of the wildest things I had ever seen.

Priest was asked to compare the 2023 and 2024 Backlash crowds. He admitted that France edges out Puerto Rico, but thinks Puerto Rico set the standard.

Man, it hurts me to say it but I gotta pick France (over Puerto Rico in terms of Backlash crowds). That was something special but that’s not to dog out the island. The island did its thing and they set the table for France to do that. Now, when we go back to P.R., I fully expect Puerto Rico to top that. I think it’s gonna be a one-upmanship type of thing. Without Puerto Rico, I don’t know if that crowd would have done the exact same thing. I’m still sure they would have been on fire but I don’t know (if) it would have been the way that they outshined every other event so, the ball’s in your court Puerto Rico. I’m expecting us to take the number one spot again.

Priest is the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion and he’s had one successful title defense thus far. He has granted Drew McIntyre a title shot for when he’s cleared. Priest cashed in Money in the Bank on McIntyre on night two of WrestleMania XL.
