Matt Cardona, in his storyline role as Game Changer Wrestling’s General Manager, has stripped Blake Christian of the GCW World Championship.

Christian had been scheduled to defend the title against Joey Janela at June 2nd’s GCW Cage of Survival 3.

During Saturday’s GCW: Take a Picture event, Cardona came to the ring to make a “major announcement”.

Cardona stated:

Next week, June 2nd, at Cage of Survival, in one of the biggest matches in GCW history, it was supposed to be the World Champion Blake Christian against the bad boy, Joey Janela.

I’m a man of my word, Joey will get that match, but it will not be against Blake Christian. Blake is in Japan. He’s wrestling the Best of the Super Juniors, some flip-flop spotty shit tournament. And he will not be able to get back to the United States of America.

Therefore, as of today, I am stripping Blake Christian of the GCW World Title. Effective immediately, the GCW World Championship is vacant.

Janela then came to the ring to call the decision “bullshit”. Cardona informed him that he would still have an opportunity to win the newly vacant title in the ‘Matt Cardona General Manager Game Changing Gauntlet of Survival’.

He described this as a match involving “many superstars”.

Blake Christian won the GCW World Championship almost a year ago at Cage of Survival 2 on June 4th, 2023.

He is currently third in the NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament’s A Block. He is scheduled to wrestle on Sunday, May 26th in Yoyogi, and Thursday, May 30th, at Korakuen Hall, Tokyo. The semifinals of the tournament take place on June 3rd, with the finals scheduled for NJPW Dominion on June 9th.
