TNT Championship Qualifying

Rampage kicked off with Konosuke Takeshita taking on Penta El Zero Miedo in a TNT Championship Qualifying match. This match started fast and furious as Excalibur mentioned that Chris Jericho was supposed to be on commentary but was missing. Takeshita then took control of the match, significantly slowing down the pace and getting into the face of Senior Official Paul Turner multiple times.

The two men then began exchanging impressive maneuvers with Takeshita hitting a Deadlift Wheelbarrow German Suplex on Penta and Penta returning the favor with a Made in Japan and a Canadian Destroyer on the ring apron.

Takeshita then picked up the win with a big right-hand shot followed by the Power Drive Knee for the pinfall. This means Takeshita has qualified for a TNT Championship opportunity.

Jericho Steps Down (from Rampage Commentary)

Chris Jericho was interviewed by Renee Paquette backstage who explained that he wasn’t at ringside doing commentary because of Hook’s surprise attack last week. Because of this, he’s decided to step down as Rampage commentator and focus more on Dynamite and Collision.

Undisputed Kingdom

The Undisputed Kingdom were backstage complaining about Double or Nothing and Roderick Strong said this past Wednesday he was supposed to be the tenth man in the Casino Gauntlet and he’s going to take out his frustration on Lio Rush on Collision and after that he’s coming after Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay.

Satnam Singh “In Action”

Next up was Satnam Singh taking on “Pretty” Peter Avalon who looked visibly shaken as Singh stormed down to the ring. The bell rang and Singh laid down on the mat asking Avalon to pin him. Singh easily pressed him off at the 1 count and then began the decimation. The crowd chanted “Fight Forever” as Singh got Avalon in a bear hug and Avalon submitted in. just over one minute.

Hechicero Joins Cage of Agony

Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona cut a promo backstage challenging anyone to a match tomorrow night on Collision. Cage said they watched the Casino Gauntlet this past Wednesday and were very impressed by one Hechicero who then appeared to join the ranks of Cage of Agony.

Timeless Toni

Next, in what seems like the 86th Eliminator Match in the last few weeks in AEW, Timeless Toni Storm took on Viva Van. Storm used her rear end to nail Viva Van in the head a few times – almost a butt-head-butt of sorts as she remained in control.

Viva Van then began somewhat of a comeback as the crowd had dueling “Let’s Go Toni” and “Viva Van” chants.

The commentators made mention of Viva Van holding her own in this match which was practically a cue for Storm to take control back as she hit the Hip Attack and the Storm Zero for the win.

The Outcasts

Directly after Toni’s win, Saraya and Harley Cameron were sarcastically applauding backstage running down Mariah May for wanting to be Toni Storm.

Kyle O’Reilly “In Action”

Next up, Kyle O’Reilly was in action against Jordan Cruz who was making his 2024 AEW Debut. O’Reilly jumped Cruz just as the bell rang and O’Reilly quickly dominated, tapping out Cruz with the Juji Gatame.

Johnny & Taya

Backstage, Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie cut a promo challenging Claudio Castagnoli to a match tomorrow night at Collision.

Your Rampage Main Event

The main event of Rampage was Rey Fenix taking on Isiah Kassidy. The announcers mentioned that Kassidy has been “going it alone a lot recently” still with no explanation as to what’s happened to Marq Quen. Strangely, the announce team also referred to Kassidy as “Brother Zay” which seemed to have departed with whatever is currently going on with The Hardys. The two still managed to have a fun match with Fenix picking up the win after hitting an impressive, unnamed new finisher that for recap purposes

Final Thoughts

The biggest news items coming out of this episode of Rampage were the four match announcements for tomorrow night’s Collision as well as Hechicero joining Cage of Agony for some reason. As for the wrestling, Takeshita vs Penta was good but not great and Fenix/Kassidy was a fun little match.

  • Thunder Rosa vs. Reina Dorada
  • Katsuyori Shibata & Daniel Garcia vs. The Workhorsemen
