Details regarding the 2024 G1.

As New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Dominion event was underway, an announcement was made regarding the G1 Climax 34 tournament.

There is going to be a 20-man field with 10 talents in each block. 18 of the entrants will be announced at New Japan Soul on 6/16.

As for the two remaining spots, those are going to be determined via play-in matches during the ‘Soul’ tour. NJPW sent out the following information about the later stages of the tournament:

This year though, it will be the top three finishers that advance. Second and third place finishers will face off in Makuhari August 15, with the top point scorer receiving a bye to Ryogoku August 17. There, semifinals will determine an overall winner for each block, to compete in the grand final August 18!

Throughout the tournament, there will be 30-minute time limits. The G1 Climax begins on July 20th and it’ll wrap up on August 18th. Tetsuya Naito was the winner of the 2023 tourney.

The winner will obtain a briefcase that guarantees them a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom.
