Avid listeners of Jim Ross’ podcast “Grilling JR” are likely aware that the legendary commentator has recently been out of the spotlight due to an illness. Recent episodes of the show have been without Ross, and co-host Conrad Thompson has in the past asked for well wishes for his colleague.

However, per a recent update, Ross is feeling better and hopes to be back on AEW programming soon.

Since late May, Ross has been battling a virus that briefly placed him in the hospital. During a live stream on Wednesday, he described coming down with a sickness while on his way back to Oklahoma last month.

“On the way here I contracted a virus, which was not cool,” said Ross on his ‘Grilling JR’ Youtube page. “The guy that helps me here [and] runs my website, Stephen Link, he picked me up and brought me home. I was feeling really bad, I don’t know why, I just got to feeling bad. We went to the emergency medical thing, and they admitted me to the hospital right away. That was kind of scary. I stayed in the hospital here in Oklahoma for three nights, I think it was. It was never any fun. I was diagnosed as having a, I think they called it ‘Virus A’ or something along those lines. So I struggled a little bit for three days, but I got over the hump as I always do. It seems like I always kick out. I can’t do any jobs, not in Oklahoma. It’s like [Jerry] Lawler getting beat in Memphis, it don’t happen.”

Now that he is feeling better, Ross expects that he’ll be back on the AEW desk for the promotion’s next pay-per-view card. This would mean we’ll likely next see him at Forbidden Door, which is scheduled to go down on June 30 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

“You just gotta understand that getting older comes with a price. Anyway, I’m battling and I feel good, actually. I’ve got some appearances coming up … The next time I’m going on the road will be for this AEW pay-per-view, so I’m going to resume my schedule for that activity. I’ll be at the next pay-per-view as far as I know. If Tony Khan doesn’t want me there then he’ll tell me, but that’s not been the case. He’s been very supportive, which I appreciate.”
