Earlier on Saturday, two hopefuls got closer to entry into the NJPW G1 Climax tournament.

The matches took place as part of the New Japan Soul tour card in Fukushima. Both were preliminary qualifiers on the A-Block side.

Callum Newman defeated Yujiro Takahashi. Newman will go on to face KENTA.

YOSHI-HASHI got the better of Chase Owens, and will next go up against Tomohiro Ishii.

That sets the semi-finals for entry into the vacant spot in the A-Block.

On Sunday in Kamisu, the B-Block preliminary matches will take place. Toru Yano will face Oleg Boltin (winner faces Hiroshi Tanahashi) and Satoshi Kojima goes up against TJP (winner faces Taichi).

The semi-final matches are set for July 3rd at Korakuen Hall, with the finals on July 5th on the final day of the New Japan Soul tour.

The G1 begins on July 20th with two nights at Edion Arena in Osaka.
