Tony Khan discusses portal/masked wrestler vignette that aired on AEW Collision: “It’s a wrestler we’re really excited about”

An interview with AEW’s CEO.

The 7/10 edition of AEW Dynamite is emanating from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Ahead of the show, AEW President Tony Khan returned to the Battleground Podcast

He addressed the vignette that aired on the 7/6 Collision that saw a person jump through a portal and then an image of a masked wrestler flashed on the screen. Khan said he’s not teasing the biggest free agent signing, but it is a wrestler he’s excited about.

I can confirm that was definitely not me in the mask (in the AEW portal vignette), and I think it’s gonna be great. It’s somebody I’m excited for but it’s, you know, not necessarily teasing the biggest free agent signing or anything like that. It’s a wrestler we’re really excited about and it’s cool to use vignettes to get people excited about introducing somebody to AEW and I think it’s gonna be something really cool. That vignette got people talking on Collision and we’ll have more of that and it’s really fun.

On July 24th, AEW is presenting the next installment of Blood & Guts which will see The Elite take on Team AEW. Khan was asked about the possibility of a women’s Blood & Guts and thinks it’d be great.

He feels the division is the strongest it’s ever been and when it comes to a Blood & Guts match, he wants to have enough people available and for the story to make sense.

We’ve had these great men’s Blood & Guts matches. I think they’ve been fantastic. At some point, it’d be great to have a women’s Blood & Guts match. I think you need a lot of people tied in on story and a lot of healthy people. We’ve had a great roster that we’re building up and I think our women’s roster is stronger than it’s ever been right now today and I’m really excited about that so, if we ever get to the point where we’ve got enough people tied together and the story makes sense, I think it would be great.

POST Wrestling’s John Pollock and Wai Ting will be reviewing the 7/10 Dynamite. That will be available to listen to/watch at this link.
