Rhodes realized that him and the crowd were in it together.
It has been six months since WWE presented their 2024 installment of the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event. The men’s version of the match closed the show and the final two participants were CM Punk and winner of the match, current Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
Rhodes’ new show titled What Do You Wanna Talk About? premiered on WWE’s YouTube channel and he looked back at the 2024 Rumble. He recounted the crowd leaning in his favor while up against Punk.
I had been pitted against (CM) Punk on the go up towards the (Royal) Rumble and then ultimately, to WrestleMania and then Punk is as hot as he’s ever been and Punk is beloved. But in the match, there was this general fifty-fifty-ish that slowly went to sixty-forty, slowly went to seventy-thirty in my favor and I thought, oh, okay. This is the way. We’re all in on this together. Okay, great. It’s a tough spot to be in where, ‘I want him to win, I want him to win, I want her to win, I want her to win.’ But in this case, I feel like the story had gone on where that was a nice moment, because I would have hated walking out of there like, ugh, probably could have gone another way with that, you know?… It’s validating. It was real. It’s the whole bit. It’s real.
Rhodes is now on the SmackDown brand. At the Money in the Bank Premium Live Event, he teamed with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton to take on The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga). Solo pinned Rhodes to secure the win for his team.
