AEW President Tony Khan says the promotion doesn’t plan on hosting a U.S. stadium show in the “immediate future,” but also isn’t going to shut down the possibility of it happening sometime in the future.
Since last year, AEW has started to open up to the idea of stadium shows. Last year they hosted the All In pay-per-view at Wembley Stadium in London, England, and plan to head back to the venue next month.
There are also plans for AEW to collaborate with NJPW and CMLL for a show at the Tokyo Dome early next year, taking place one day after the prolific Wrestle Kingdom show.
As stadiums start to take a presence in AEW’s schedule, one might wonder whether an event of that size would ever take place stateside.
Curiosity about such an event grew significantly this week after a Figthful Select report noted that a stadium was being considered for the Dallas/Arlington area for 2025.
Khan was asked about the report in a recent interview with ComicBook.com. He didn’t close the door of a potential Texas stadium card in his response but also didn’t make it sound like it’s something that could come soon.
“It’s not something that we would be looking to do anytime here in the immediate future,” Khan told ComicBook.com. “But it is an exciting idea and something I think that we absolutely could do and something that would be very interesting.”
The comment from Khan doesn’t necessarily deny the Fightful report, as there are different interpretations of how far away an “immediate future” is.
Texas is one of the more frequently utilized markets for AEW. The city of Garland played host to the 11th-ever Dynamite and has been in their TV rotation ever since. Saturday’s Collision card in Arlington will mark their 24th trip to the state.
