Seth Rollins to be special guest referee for CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam

Rollins to officiate Punk versus McIntyre.

Dating back to the 2024 Royal Rumble, CM Punk has been sidelined due to undergoing surgery for a torn triceps. He appeared on the 7/22 WWE Raw to announce that he’s cleared to compete.

He proceeded to call out Drew McIntyre and out came the former WWE Champion. McIntyre said he did not want to fight Punk at the moment and added that the location for Raw, Green Bay, Wisconsin is not big enough for their fight.

Punk tried to get at McIntyre but was held back by referees and producers. General Manager Adam Pearce then joined the fray and made the match official for SummerSlam. He said the match will be called off if they get physical with one another and whoever throws the first punch will be suspended.

He would go on to introduce Seth Rollins as the special guest referee for Punk versus McIntyre. On 7/19, WrestleVotes was first to report that the plans for SummerSlam were to have Rollins guest referee the bout.

The updated SummerSlam lineup is listed as follows:

  • WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. GUNTHER
  • WWE Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax
  • WWE Women’s World Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley
  • Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa
  • WWE United States Championship: Logan Paul (c) vs. L.A. Knight
  • WWE Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker
  • CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre — Special Guest Referee: Seth Rollins
