Khan was not for the idea.

There’s a feature about Terry Funk and Ric Flair’s 1989 feud that was published by Phil Schneider of The Ringer. Among those interviewed for the piece were Paul Heyman and Eddie Kingston.

There’s a portion of the article that focused in on the angle from Clash of the Champions 8 when Funk wrapped a plastic bag around Flair’s head and tried to suffocate him.

Kingston shared that he asked about the plastic bag several times while feuding with Chris Jericho in AEW. He added that AEW President Tony Khan said they were not doing it. Here’s the excerpt from the article:

“Trust me, I know how Turner is scared about that because I’ve asked about the plastic bag several times,” Kingston shares, reflecting on the creative process in AEW (which airs on two Turner stations, TBS and TNT) during his 2022 feud with Chris Jericho. “It was always walking in and Tony [Khan] going, ‘We’re not doing the plastic bag.’”

Kingston is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus that he suffered in May.
