Matthew and Nicholas speak about the sneaker-wrestling connection.

The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) have a signature shoe that was released by Reebok in May 2024. There’s an interview with the duo that was conducted by Sneaker History and they dove into their love of shoes and wearing sneakers in the ring.

Along the way, Matthew looked back at AEW Double or Nothing 2023 when he competed in Anarchy in the Arena. He superkicked Jon Moxley and pyro went off from the shoe when the kick connected. He confirmed that he had to get his Nevada state Fire Performer license in order to make the moment happen.

We were in Las Vegas at the Double or Nothing — was it ‘23? And I had the Across the Spider-Verse Jordan 1 sneakers and I blew ‘em up essentially in someone’s face. I superkicked Jon Moxley and I had a pyrotechnic attached to the sneaker and it just created this giant fireball in his face and it was so shocking, nobody saw it coming and it was almost like this two or three second delay of like, wait, wait, wait, what!? Nobody understood what they had just seen and it was really cool because it took a lot of work. I had to get my Nevada state license as a fireworker I think they call it. I had to go through rehearsal. We had to really make sure this thing was gonna work and there’s a big chance it wouldn’t have worked. So just the fact that it worked and it worked as well as it did, I think that’s one that maybe isn’t talked about enough. I know people send me private messages all the time, ‘I love this moment’ but, I feel like it’s kind of forgotten. Maybe because it was amongst such a crazy match that night where a million other things happened but, that for me is a really special moment with sneakers.

The 7/25 episode of AEW Dynamite is the Blood & Guts edition of the program. The Elite (Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson, Hangman Adam Page, Jack Perry & Kazuchika Okada) will be taking on Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Anthony Bowens, Mark Briscoe, Max Caster & Darby Allin).

Matthew shared that he’s been thinking about how to incorporate a sneaker moment into this year’s match.

We have a big match coming up this week, Blood & Guts, and we’re trying to think of maybe there’s a fun moment with a sneaker there and I had one last night I was thinking about maybe we can do so, we’re always thinking about more moments to come.

The 7/25 Dynamite will be reviewed here on POST Wrestling by John Pollock and Andrew Thompson. It’ll be available to listen to live and afterwards, via the Rewind-A-Dynamite podcast folder.
