Perez has expressed interest in a match with Mendez.

It is well documented that NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez took inspiration from A.J. Mendez (A.J. Lee). Post-wrestling, Mendez ventured off to become an author and she co-founded the content company, Scrappy Heart Productions.

Perez said in the past that she hopes to have a match with Mendez, who has not wrestled since 2015. She shared with Pro Wrestling Illustrated that when she chats with CM Punk about wanting that match, he tells Roxanne that he’s trying to reel Mendez back into the sport.

Definitely, yeah, I try (to talk to CM Punk about convincing A.J. Lee to return) but he tells me that he’s doing the same thing. He’s trying to get her to come back, he’s pulling her in but, I hope one day she decides to come back and have a match with me.

Perez is in the midst of her second reign as NXT Women’s Champion. Coming up for her is a title defense against Thea Hail at Great American Bash.

On NXT TV, Perez name-dropped Stephanie Vaquer and Giulia as potential future opponents.
