A world championship match will be just one win away for some AEW wrestlers later this week when the Royal Rampage returns later this week.

The battle royal match, which has been utilized by AEW during their Blood & Guts taping of Dynamite, will come back once again this year. The special two-ring match will take place tonight at AEW’s event in Nashville, Tennessee, and will air Friday as part of the latest episode of Rampage.

The victorious wrestler will get a match against the current AEW World Champion at Grand Slam, currently booked for September 25 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. AEW’s top belt is currently held by Swerve Strickland, although there are notably two pay-per-view events that he could appear in before he takes to the legendary New York venue in September.

Last year, Royal Rampage was used to determine who would challenge for the AEW TNT Championship. Darby Allin prevailed in that instance but later came up short in his title fight against Luchasaurus.

The year before then, Brody King came out on top, earning him a match against then-interim world champ Jon Moxley in 2022.

The Royal Rampage match has gone more than 20 minutes in both previous instances, meaning it likely will be the centerpiece of the hour-long program this week.
