Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu are the new WWE Tag Team Champions after defeating Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa of DIY.
The match was the main event of Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
Before the match, Cleveland native Gargano was seen kissing his child backstage. He then made a speech about attending his first WWE event in 1996 at the same arena. SummerSlam 1996 was hosted at the then Gund Arena, now the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
Unfortunately, the hometown hero would not prevail amid interference from other members of The Bloodline.
After hitting the Shatter Machine on Tama Tonga, DIY looked set for victory when Solo Sikoa delivered a Samoan Spike to Ciampa.
This allowed Jacob Fatu to run wild and get the pin on Gargano.
