Darby Allin vs. The Butcher

Rampage kicked off with Darby Allin taking on The Butcher. Allin was bleeding from the mouth within thirty second of the match starting as the announce team reminded us that Darby Allin will face Jack Perry for the TNT Championship at All In London and he will also have a World Championship match at Grand Slam in September. Darby then was somehow bleeding from the forehead as he hit a Coffin Drop from the top rope onto The Butcher on the outside.

The Butcher then turned the tides and dominated Darby Allin all over the ring and on the outside as well.

Darby Allin then hit a nasty-looking Topé Suicida to the outside and then later an avalanche Code Red on The Butcher, followed by a Coffin Drop for the win.

Rush’s Last Chance

Footage was shown from last week after Dynamite with Alicia Atout catching Don Callis berating Rush for losing. Callis asked Rush if he was willing to do anything to be the best. Callis revealed he booked him in his last match tomorrow night on Collision against Preston Vance. Callis said he wanted Vance sent to the hospital and Rush said he was ready.

Post-Dynamite Backstage Brawl

The online exclusive video was shown from after Dynamite with Hangman brawling with Jeff Jarrett. It cut off though before Toni Storm and Mariah May also brawled into frame. We then heard from Jay Lethal saying that he had enough of Hangman. Lethal noted that he wasn’t much of a fighter but this Wednesday on Dynamite would not be “just a walk in the park”.

Wheeler Yuta vs. Rocky Romero

With Wheeler Yuta scheduled to face Swerve Strickland this Wednesday on Dynamite, this match certainly had a predictable outcome. That said, Yuta and Romero put on an impressive technical match with a number of impressive reversals.

This match also featured Bryan Danielson on commentary live-critiquing Yuta including saying he had to talk to him after the match after not covering Romero properly. Yuta finished Romero off with a cross-legged Tombstone (which Danielson said they’d been working on), Hammer and Anvil Elbows and finally the Cattle Mutilation for the Submission victory.

Willow’s Idea

Renee Paquette interviewed Willow Nightingale asking about her frustration level with Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway. Tomohiro Ishii entered and Willow said “Oh so you hate Stokely too? Do you have plans at Wembley? Because I have this idea..” and Ishii and Nightingale walked off together.

Private Party vs. Zane & Dave Dawson

Next up was Private Party taking on Zane and Dave Dawson. As the match began, the announce team explained that Private Party had a rough go of it recently and wondered if maybe they partied too much. After working more heel lately, it seemed as though this was a turn back toward face as they tried to ramp up the crowd before big spots. At one point, one of the Dawsons yelled “If we beat them, we get contracts!” but unfortunately that was not the case as Private Party hit a special Gin & Juice (with a twist?) where one Dawson landed on the other as they executed the move.

Virtuosa Promo

A Deonna Purrazzo video package aired, hyping up her Texas Bull Rope match against Thunder Rosa tomorrow on Collision.

The Natural, with ROH Footage?

A Dustin Rhodes backstage promo aired with Dustin Rhodes talking about being so excited about finally becoming a champion “in AEW” (not “ROH”) alongside The Von Erichs. He then brought up his match with Sammy Guevara last night on Ring of Honor where Sammy Guevara wanted to earn his trust (Note: they actually showed a short clip of the match from Honor Club which was unusual) and he wants more. Rhodes then challenged Taven & Bennett to a ROH Tag Team Championship match. The Kingdom then entered complaining that they could hear him as they were just off to the side. Taven complained that Sammy Guevara was gone for seven months for just having one kid and then Bennett low-blowed Rhodes.

Saraya vs. Nyla Rose

The main event of the evening was two former AEW Women’s Champions colliding as Saraya took on Nyla Rose. Saraya jumped Rose before the bell rang, allowing Saraya to gain an early advantage.

In a funny moment, Harley Cameron screamed at Saraya from the outside to hit Nyla with the Rampage. Saraya responded that it hadn’t been called that in about two years as Cameron replied apologizing saying that she wasn’t perfect. Nyla Rose had the match won with a choke slam when Harley Cameron distracted the referee. This led to Harley Cameron sweeping the legs out from under Nyla and then holding them down, allowing Saraya to pick up the victory.

Announced for Collision Tomorrow in Arlington, TX:

  • Darby Allin & Hologram vs. The Premier Athletes
  • Rush vs. Preston Vance
  • Swerve Stickland Open Challenge Eliminator Match
  • FTR vs. The Outrunners
  • Hikaru Shida In Action

Final Thoughts

Darby Allin doesn’t hold back, even during taped shows. Between the Royal Rampage and this very good match with The Butcher, I wouldn’t mind if Darby became the face of Rampage as all of his matches are at least somewhat enjoyable. It was interesting that Dustin Rhodes referred to himself as “a champion in AEW” as they then aired footage from ROH Honor Club last night. This also led to Rhodes challenging The Kingdom to a Tag Team Championship match, seemingly further reintegrating ROH into AEW and perhaps adding fuel to the rumor fire of ROH being rebranded AEW Ring of Honor.
