The 2024 G1 Climax resumed on Saturday with the penultimate round of B Block matches.
The stakes were high at the Xebio Arena in Sendai, with Yuya Uemura and HENARE one defeat away from elimination.
Yuya Uemura faced Yota Tsuji in the main event. This was the first singles meeting of the pair since Uemura lost a hair vs. hair match at New Beginning in Sapporo. It was Uemura who would win with a quick inside cradle to keep his hopes alive. Both men are on 8 points.
Jeff Cobb faced David Finlay in the semi-main, with a guaranteed place in the playoffs on the line for Cobb if he could pull off the victory. Instead, Finlay escaped the Tour of the Islands to hit two powerbombs followed by the Overkill. Finlay now shares the B Block lead with Cobb on 10 points.
Elsewhere, sentimental favorite Hirooki Goto remained on 8 points after losing to the already-eliminated El Phantasmo. Phantasmo grabbed the pin with a crucifix hold.
HENARE went into his match with Ren Narita knowing that a loss would eliminate him from contention. Predictably, Narita jumped his opponent during his entrance and engaged in other heel tactics including a ref bump that let him away with taking a visible pin. A low blow and the Double Cross gave Narita the win and left HENARE out of contention. Narita shares the 10-point lead with Finlay and Cobb.
Oleg Boltin faced Konosuke Takeshita with only pride on the line for Boltin, who is already eliminated from the tournament. Takeshita remains on 8 points after Boltin managed the win with the Kamikaze.
The tournament resumes in Nagaoka on Monday with the final round of A Block matches.
