G1 Climax 34 Contest: Final Contest Results

After 90 block matches and the playoff round, the G1 Climax for 2024 is in the books. Thanks to all 227 people who participated in the contest and thanks to all of the POST Wrestling podcast hosts for dutifully recapping the contest results. The full results for night 16 are at the end of this post.

And now, for what you came here for… the contest results!

Overall Contest Winners

While Chris_Elliott84 was the name often mentioned at in the first place slot throughout the contest, Tom Williams climbed the mountain and both contestants ended the tournament with 60 points. This means they correctly predicted 2 out of every 3 block matches which is a very impressive accomplishment. This meant going to tie-breaker points. As a reminder, we asked all contestants to predict the A Block Winner, B Block Winner, and Overall G1 winner. Predicting the Block Winners scored one tie-breaker point each and predicting the overall G1 Winner scored three tie-breaker points. Tom accurately predicted that David Finlay would win the B Block yielding him the only tie-breaker point between the two contestants giving him the first place victory.

The battle for third place was even more hotly contested. Alex Edwards, Luk from Quebec, and Eric J all scored 58 points. Eric J scored no tie-breaker points but Alex and Luk scored 1 tie-breaker point each, both having predicted that Zack Sabre Jr. would be the A Block Winner. We then had to go to secondary tie-breakers of perfectly-predicted days, of which neither Alex nor Luk had any. That meant going to tertiary tie-breakers wherein we had to look at the number of days each contestant accurately predicted four out of five matches. Alex had six such days whereas Luk had five, making Alex the third place contestant by an extremely thin margin.

POST Wrestling Family Block

In the POST Wrestling Family Block, first and second place were unequivocally clear. While Chopped Tees was often the leader throughout the tournament, John Siino was able to endure and exceed Chopped Tees’ efforts and claim first place with 55 points. Chopped Tees held on to second with their very respectable 53 point finish. Third place was also a close race in the Family Block with both Brad ‘The Archivist’ Copping and Eric Marcotte scoring 51 points. Both Brad and Eric scored 1 tie-breaker point each, both having accurately predicted that David Finlay would win B Block. This meant, again, third place had to go to secondary tie-breakers to determine the clear winner. Neither man accurately predicted 10, 9, or 6 matches for days 1/2/3 so going to perfectly-predicted 5-point days was next with, surprisingly, neither man having any. Both men had exactly three days where they predicted 4 out of 5. When going to the next level of tie-breaker, Brad edged out Eric having had six days correctly predicting 3 out of 5 results with Eric only have four such days. Congratulations to Brad for the narrowly-won podium finish!
