AEW Dynamite saw an increase in its 18-49 audience but dropped in its ranking due to coverage of the Democratic National Convention.
The August 21 episode – taped in Wales earlier in the day – averaged 698,000 viewers and 314,000 viewers (0.24) in the 18-49 demographic, per PW Torch & Wrestlenomics.
The 18-49 audience grew this week by 3%, however, after ranking #1 last week on cable the show fell to #9 this week behind eight cable news programs covering the DNC on Wednesday night. It was Dynamite’s largest audience in the core demo since July 24.
AEW’s younger audience was not affected by the DNC coverage as the 18-34 audience grew by 23% this week to an average of 112,000 viewers, registering its highest figure since July 17.
Adults 35-49 fell by 6% with an average of 202,000 viewers largely due to the 14% decline among women in the demo from 71,000 viewers last week to 61,000 for this week’s show.
Wrestlenomics reported that the most-watched quarter was the opening fifteen minutes involving Mercedes Mone and Dr. Britt Baker’s contract signing with 840,000 viewers and 334,000 in the demo. The low point was the nine-minute overrun segment featuring Swerve Strickland and Bryan Danielson at 564,000 viewers and 293,000 in the demo.
After a glitch in last week’s programming guide, Dynamite’s Canadian audience rebounded. Last week’s show was not properly listed, and the audience fell to 36,100 viewers and 26,200 in the 25-54 demographic. This week it posted an audience of 119,500 viewers and 75,100 in the demo on TSN 2. Dynamite ranked third on Wednesday among sports programming and ranked second in the demo behind the Toronto Blue Jays vs. Cincinnati Reds.
