Corey Graves stepped back into the Raw commentary seat as Pat McAfee is away for his College GameDay duties. Michael Cole and Graves are going to be the commentary team when SmackDown officially returns to USA Network on September 13th. ESPN’s Joe Tessitore will be taking over the lead commentary role for Raw starting 9/2.
There were multiple Triple Threat matches that took place to decide who advances to a Fatal 4-Way. The winner of that Fatal 4-Way will be the next challenger to Bron Breakker’s Intercontinental Championship. Jey Uso bested Kofi Kingston and Karrion Kross and in the second Triple Threat, Pete Dunne defeated The Miz and Xavier Woods to advance. On the 9/2 Raw, the following qualifying matches are taking place:
- Sheamus vs. Bronson Reed vs. Ludwig Kaiser
- Ilja Dragunov vs. Dragon Lee vs. Dominik Mysterio
A graphic and tribute video aired for the late Sid Eudy (Sycho Sid/Sid Vicious).
Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas) headlined the show in a singles match against Chad Gable. It was Dallas’ first match since November 2019. Gable accidentally knocked the referee down and out came American Made (Julius Creed, Brutus Creed & Ivy Nile). The Wyatt Sicks (Dexter Lumis, Joe Gacy & Erick Redbeard) evened the numbers game. Back in the ring, Howdy hit Gable with a Sister Abigail to secure the win.
A singles bout between Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman made its way to the parking lot. Strowman chokeslammed Reed onto a car and Reed beat Strowman with a pipe. Their back-and-forth ended with Reed jumping off a ledge and hitting a Tsunami onto Strowman as he was laid out on the roof of a car.
Drew McIntyre had an in-ring segment to promote his Strap match against CM Punk at Bash in Berlin. Punk was underneath the ring on Instagram Live as McIntyre was speaking. He went on to ambush Drew. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce fined Punk for using the strap on security personnel that were trying to separate him and McIntyre.
Zelina Vega is back on Raw and she attacked Sonya Deville from behind. That led to Kairi Sane and IYO SKY defeating the duo of Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler in their tag match. It’ll be Vega versus Baszler on the 9/2 Raw.
It was announced by Michael Cole that Rey Mysterio is going to be part of Joey Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef on 9/2. The program is airing on Netflix.
