Marshall Von Erich: Ross & I are not in wrestling to get famous… We could have tried to go to WWE a long time ago

Von Erichs are thoroughly enjoying AEW.

Over the summer, The Von Erichs (Marshall Von Erich, Ross Von Erich & Kevin Von Erich) formed an on-screen alliance with Dustin Rhodes.

That alliance led to the trio of Dustin, Marshall and Ross becoming ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions and thus far, they’ve had two successful title defenses.

Marshall, Ross and Kevin joined Aubrey Edwards and Will Washington to record an episode of AEW Unrestricted. Marshall expressed his thought that him and his brother are not in wrestling for the fame. He added that they could’ve tried to go to WWE a long time ago.

My dad kind of put that in our heads. He said when he was at Sportatorium, he was playing college football at the same time and his teammates would wanna come watch him wrestle, and he’s like, ‘I didn’t wanna get embarrassed. When they came, I wanted them to believe what I was doing and I wanted to make it something that they would go home and, what the hell was that?’ You know? And so, it put it in our heads that we just love that snug style of wrestling and they (Undisputed Kingdom) were all about it and Dustin (Rhodes) prepped us and so it was just — it really was the perfect match for us. We loved every second of it. This whole experience has just been so humbling. I didn’t know how cool everyone was gonna be at AEW. The locker room, it’s like the happiest locker room. It really feels like it was just made for us. All the guys in the locker room, that’s one of the best conversations. The fans are just unbelievable. We were so humbled that we were able to wrestle for AEW in the D.F.W. area; Arlington, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio. Being able to do that, it was like a dream come true because Ross (Von Erich) and I, we’ve talked about this for months. Before we were in talks with anybody, we told each other and dad, especially after the movie (The Iron Claw) came out, we were on Busted Open and we basically put it out there that people, when they Google my dad, we want them to see the story that his sons are not only doing what he did, following his footsteps but, successful at it and we’re not in wrestling to get famous or anything like that. We could have tried to go to WWE a long time ago. We were in it for a totally different reason. Of course, The Von Erichs, (make it) a household name. That’s been a mission but before that, it was just a quest to get to know our family better and to prove my dad right. My dad really has been the number one supporter from the start and we did not believe in ourselves in Japan. We were like 0-70, just getting our butts kicked every day in the dojo, doing young boy stuff and it was just an extremely humbling experience. But, it made us fall in love with wrestling because now these payoffs are coming. Those years and years of putting in work like that and to have it pay off like that with Dustin, with my dad, it was a really humbling moment. It was impossible to sink in that night so it took about three or four days and when we all got home, made eye contact and started talking, it was like, ‘Did that really just happen?’ It was marching on. Awesome. This made me re-fall in love with professional wrestling. This is by far the funnest time in my career.

Dustin and The Von Erichs were in action on the AEW All In Zero Hour. They participated in a 10-man tag in which their team scored the win.
