Tag Team Three-Way

Rampage kicked off with Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal taking on Matt Taven & Mike Bennett and Private Party in a three-way tag team match. The very small crowd immediately seemed even smaller than it did on Dynamite on Wednesday as everything the performers were saying was very audible in the ring. That said, the crowd still was firmly behind Jarrett & Lethal and still popped for Private Party’s high-flying maneuvers. When Jarrett was finally tagged in it was clear he was the most over in the match as Matt Taven tried to use his trunks to score the pinfall but to no avail. Marq Quen hit an impressive 450 splash and got a near fall before Mike Bennett broke it up. The finish saw Jarrett and Lethal put the Undisputed Kingdom into dueling Figure Fours, tapping them out simultaneously.

Takeshita/Mortos Video Packages

A shorter version of the Konosuke Takeshita video from Dynamite aired. After the break, a similar short promo package aired highlighting The Beast Mortos.

Mina Shirakawa Returns

Recently crowned RevPro British Women’s Champion Mina Shirakawa returned to AEW to take on Missa Kate. The announce team of Tony Schiavone, Excalibur, and Matt Menard noted that Mina was in the Royal Box at All In and couldn’t decide who to support between Mariah May and Toni Storm. Missa Kate got some early offense in but ultimately succumbed to the Glamorous Driver in just over three minutes.

Kris Statlander & Stokely Promo

Stokely said that Willow Nightingale had surrounded herself with deviants in reference to The Conglomeration and mocked her for picking the stipulation of a Chicago Street Fight. Stokely then called a camera operator into the frame and Statlander punched him with a steel chain. Statlander claimed that All Out would be “the death of this friendship” which seemed a little odd as they have not been friends for quite a while now. Unless she was coyly talking about Stokely?

Grizzled Young Veterans vs. The Outrunners

Next up was the youngest men alive The Outrunners accompanied by Erica Leigh taking on the Grizzled Young Veterans. As The Outrunners spun around during their entrance, Excalibur said he had a case of the meat-spins and… don’t google that. GYV dominated a large portion of the match as Zach Gibson screamed into Turbo Floyd’s face calling the team a joke just like the whole division.

The Outrunners then got a hot tag and the crowd popped for them getting some offense in. GYV then turned things around hitting an absolutely brutal-looking Doomsday Device on Floyd and then hitting Total Elimination for the win. After the match, GYV cut a promo into the camera calling out FTR, The Acclaimed, and The Young Bucks and said they were after the tag team titles.

Komander/Lio Rush Promos

Much like earlier in the evening, two more promos were shown featuring the final two competitors from tonight’s main event.

Nyla Rose Squash

Nyla Rose squashed Aminah Belmont in under two minutes.

Main Event 4-Way

The main event of Rampage was a 4-way match between 2024 G1 Highlight Reel Performer Konosuke Takeshita, The Beast Mortos, Komander, and Lio Rush. Early in the match, Takeshita and Mortos worked in tandem although that was short-lived as the two started pummeling each other with clotheslines until Rush and Komander hit them with stereo tope suicidas.

Komander then impressed with a Tornillo to the floor followed by Mortos hitting a Tornillo of his own. The pace of the action continued to build as all four men hit impressive moves that just seemed to increase in intensity exponentially.

The crowd chanted “Fight forever” as things built to a fever pitch with Komander taking control by hitting a crazy swan dive poisonrana from the top.

Lio Rush then hit a series of dives to the outside only to be speared by Beast Mortos. Takeshita then returned and nailed Komander with a Blue Thunder Bomb followed by a Falcon Arrow for the win.

Announced for Collision Tomorrow in Sioux Falls, SD:

  • Tomohiro Ishii vs. Kyle Fletcher
  • Undisputed Kingdom vs. FTR
  • Lee Moriarty, Johnny TV & The Beast Mortos vs. Hologram, Kyle O’Reilly & Orange Cassidy
  • Queen Aminata vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Serena Deeb vs. Thunder Rosa

Final Thoughts

A bit of a different format for Rampage tonight with them building to the main event all night with promo packages for each competitor versus the normal format of putting the most significant match at the top of the show. The main event was a fast, fun spot-fest in the best sense of the term. Everything else was perfectly okay but you may want to at least check out the main event. It made the small crowd that didn’t come through well on Dynamite seem much bigger.
