WWE will not hold any production credits on the upcoming Netflix documentary series on Vince McMahon.

Wrestlenomics and POST Wrestling can report that WWE will not be listed as a producer on the series, according to a person familiar with the project.

On WWE’s third-quarter earnings call in 2020, company president Nick Khan announced, “a groundbreaking deal” in selling a multi-part documentary to Netflix to profile McMahon. Khan stated in 2020 that Bill Simmons of The Ringer would serve as the project’s executive producer with Chris Smith (“Fyre Festival” and “Tiger King”) set to direct and produce the doc series along with WWE Studios.

When Netflix’s official announcement of the premiere date was announced on Thursday, there was no mention of WWE Studios:

Executive produced by Smith and Bill Simmons, Mr. McMahon chronicles the rise and fall of Vince McMahon, controversial businessman and co-founder of WWE. The series covers McMahon’s transformation of WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse, and the explosive sexual misconduct allegations that led to his eventual resignation.

Wrestlenomics and POST Wrestling have also confirmed neither Janel Grant nor her representatives were interviewed for the “Mr. McMahon” series on Netflix.

The six-episode series will premiere on the streaming platform on September 25.

WWE and Netflix announced a distribution deal this past January, which goes into effect in the new year and includes the U.S. domestic rights of Raw going to the streamer.

We have reached out to WWE for comment and will update this story if they respond.
