Countdown to NXT No Mercy

Megan Morant was joined by Sam Roberts in a WWE television studio for an hour-long countdown show to preview the card and introduce a series of video packages and interviews. There were no pre-show matches.

NXT Tag Team Championships: Nathan Frazer and Axiom def. Chase University (Andre Chase and Ridge Holland) (c)

An excellent and high-paced tag match to open the show, complete with title switch and post-match angle.

The finishing sequence saw Andre Chase take a Spanish Fly from Axiom and Phoenix Splash from Frazer to win the championships.

After the match, Ridge Holland lost it and attacked the other male members of Chase U, including delivering a Redeemer DDT to Andre on the announce desk.

Wes Lee vs. Zachary Wentz

TNA X-Division Champion Zachary Wentz came out first for this grudge match with his former Rascalz and MSK teammate Wes Lee.

Wes Lee showed great levels of aggression, cementing his heel turn.

These two, obviously very familiar with each other given their long history, delivered an excellent match. An unfortunate collapse of the announce desk before a move could be executed was ignored by Lee, who delivered a splash regardless.

Rascalz running mate Trey Miguel would stop Lee from using a steel chair on Wentz, who was then able to deliver the UFO cutter for the win in a program that seems certain to continue.

NXT Women’s North American Championship: Kelani Jordan (c) def. Wendy Choo

A lot of character work from Wendy Choo in her new persona in a solid match. The encounter suffered just a little from its placement right after the two exciting and eventful matches that opened the show.

The crowd got more into the match as it went on, with Choo seemingly able to absorb everything that Jordan could throw at her.

A top-rope splash followed by the split-legged moonsault finally did the trick for the champion, who retained.

After the match Tatum Paxley attacked Choo to get a measure of revenge from the Great American Bash week 2.

NXT North American Championship: Oba Femi (c) def. Tony D’Angelo

Tony D’Angelo was out first accompanied by Stacks, Luca Crusifino, and Adriana Rizzo.

The match began with Femi easily outpowering D’Angelo before Tony was able to take him down several times.

D’Angelo appeared to twist his ankle early in the match but, after a slight pause where he appeared wobbly, was able to continue.

Tony D was booked strongly, taking a lot of punishment from Femi and getting in some decent offense and near-falls with the help of The Family. However, the champ would retain with a trio of powerbombs.

In a backstage segment following the match, we caught up with the Rascalz, who challenged Axiom and Nathan Frazer for the NXT Tag Team Titles.

NXT Women’s Championship: Roxanne Perez (c) def. Jaida Parker

A tracking shot followed Jaida Parker to the entranceway as she said she was ready to become the NXT Women’s Champion.

There was a fifty-fifty beginning to the match, with Parker taking no disrespect from Perez before momentarily getting the better of the champion. Parker came to the ring with her right ribs taped, presenting a target for Perez to attack relentlessly.

The pendulum swung after a sustained period of Parker taking punishment to the ribs, with the challenger hitting power spots for a succession of near-falls.

Outside the ring, Parker missed her target, instead sending herself through the barricade. Back in the ring as the women beat the 10-count, Perez was able to hit the Pop Rox to retain.

The lights went out after the match as Perez celebrated. Out came Giulia to a thunderous reception from the crowd.

Backstage, General Manager Ava said that whoever won the main event would defend the NXT Championship on October 1st when NXT debuts on the CW network.

NXT Championship: Ethan Page (c) def. Joe Hendry

Trick Williams, the special guest referee, was out first to his traditional welcome from the crowd.

TNA’s Joe Hendry was out next, with the crowd showing their support from the get-go.

The camera cut to Ethan Page, who said he would “do what he does best — win” backstage before coming to the ring.

Williams’ role as a fair referee was established early, as enforced rope breaks on both competitors.

It was a very even beginning to the match before Page blasted Hendry into the steel steps, quickly followed by delivering the Ego’s Edge onto the ring apron. This led to a nine-count by Trick.

Much to the delight of the crowd, Hendry would rally, hitting the Standing Ovation. This led to a two-count as Trick noted that Page’s leg was under the rope. As Hendry argued with Trick, Williams was knocked out of the ring.

Some mix-ups involving another referee ensued, eventually allowing Page to deliver the decisive Ego’s Edge and retain.

After the match, Pete Dunn appeared and attacked Trick Williams.
