He officially joins the company.

There was a press conference set up by New Japan Pro-Wrestling and it was to reveal that Jake Lee signed a contract with the company.

Lee is a member of BULLET CLUB War Dogs and during the Q&A portion of his presser, he expressed his desire to capture the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Jake competed in the G1 Climax 34 tournament and placed sixth in the A block with eight points.

Lee is a former Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion in AJPW and GHC Heavyweight Champion in NOAH. Him being a journeyman of sorts and past comments about not ‘staying forever’ in a certain promotion were brought up. He mentioned that one day, he may find himself in either AEW or WWE. Here’s an excerpt from the write-up via NJPW1972.com:

On his reputation as a journeyman, and previous comments that he would ‘not stay forever’ in a particular promotion, Lee again prompted a reporter to speculate that he may one day find himself overseas in AEW or WWE. ‘What a drama, what a vision to create!’ Lee exclaimed, ‘but just because there are big companies elsewhere does that make this a small pond? Does it? Of course not. This is a symbol of Japanese wrestling and there is more than enough to be done here. I truly believe that with all my heart- that is, if I have a heart. Hahaha!’

Coming up for New Japan is their Road to Destruction tour that starts on September 6th. Lee is set for tag team action on that show as he’ll be teaming with STRONG Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd.
