Henry went on to state that there were never plans for him to wrestle in AEW.
Episode one of Huge Pop with Donnie DaSilva and Jimmy Korderas featured WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry. During their chat, Henry dove into the modern-day psychology in wrestling. As he was giving his opinion, he stated that if he were to have a match with former AEW World Champion MJF, it’d be the best match anyone has seen in 2024.
You watch a movie like Mission Impossible. Oh my God, there’s no way they get out of this. Oh! Oh! I get it. That’s not happening in wrestling no more. Well, let me just go against a guy my own size and we can do a bunch of things to each other, none of it works and then all of a sudden, ooouuu, I slip and fall and land on top of him and I win. It’s not a compelling story. If I were to match with MJF, it would be the best match that anybody saw this year. Because I would make sure that he looked like a million bucks, because my goal is to make him look like a million bucks, and then I’m gonna ask him in return, hey, I know how to make me look this way. But we gotta do this and we gotta do this, and it’s not your place to pick me up or push me and run me. Now, you can dropkick me in the back and run me into the post. But if I’m 400 pounds, what is (that) gonna look like? You grabbing me and running me into the post? The psychology and the understanding of what to do is nonexistent anymore.
On the topic of being in the ring, Henry spent the last three years of his career with All Elite Wrestling in a behind the scenes role. He said there were never discussions about him wrestling for the company.
No (there were not talks of me competing for AEW). I’m an old, beat-up man. I’m not trying to have nobody whoop my ass.
AEW is inching towards their next pay-per-view, All Out. That event is emanating from Hoffman Estates, Illinois on September 7th.
There are six matches currently advertised for the show with four of those being championship bouts.
