Long-time AEW tag team wrestler The Blade provided followers with a positive update recently after undergoing back fusion surgery.
Blade, one-half of the tag team Butcher and The Blade, has been out of action since February. In June, he commented that he was still on the AEW roster but had been on injury reserve due to back issues.
In August he announced his plan to undergo surgery, mentioning that a spot during a match back in 2020 kicked off what was a long run of issues with his back.
“I took a bad fall back in 2020 and ever since then the right side of my lower back has become more and more of an issue,” he said.
The recent surgery is a big step in his road to recovery.
“Back fusion was a success,” he wrote on Instagram this week. “Thank you to everyone for your continued support. Means a lot to this Grizzled Vet Utility Brother.”
The Butcher and The Blade have had a presence on AEW programming since 2019, also beginning to compete under the ROH banner once the promotion’s weekly TV returned last year.
The Butcher has remained active on AEW programming since his partner’s injury, with nearly a dozen TV matches over the past few months.
