Will Ospreay was surprised Bryan Danielson match happened so soon, says it lived up to expectations

A ton of dream matches have been thrown Will Ospreay’s way since he became an active member of the AEW roster in March.

One of the biggest assignments for him so far this year was a 32-minute spectacle against now-champion Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynasty in April.

The match has been one of the more memorable moments from the early months of Ospreay’s run as an AEW talent. In an interview with Inside The Ropes, Ospreay admitted that he was surprised by how quickly the match was booked after he arrived in the promotion.

Ospreay remembered initially thinking ‘Wow, we’re going this quick?’ However, he thought maybe the match was being fast-tracked due to Danielson’s career nearing its end: “I guess because it is his last year as a full-time competitor, it was more or less along the lines of ‘no, we’ve got it, so let’s give it to the fans.'”

While the match might have come earlier than expected for the “Aerial Assassin,” he was over the moon with how it went.

“Yeah, 100% met my expectations,” Ospreay told Inside The Ropes. “The moment we were in the ring they started saying ‘Holy s—t.’ I know what’s a good match and what’s not. All I gotta do is close my eyes and just listen to the audience, and they were enjoying every single minute of it. Getting to come backstage was just one of those incredible moments. You ever see Avengers: Endgame where Iron Man sits down and he’s dying, and she goes, ‘You can rest now.’ It was an incredible moment and then here comes another Iron Man film.”

Ospreay has remained an important singles wrestler for AEW in recent months, capturing their International Championship and defending it just recently against PAC At All Out.

Currently tied up in a rivalry with The Elite, Ospreay will team with Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher to take on The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada on Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite.
