Jeff Hardy jokes about The Hardys going after IWGP Tag Titles: “I would probably have to win & lose them in America”

Both Matt and Jeff touched on the window that existed to work with Adam Copeland and Christian Cage again.

Ahead of the The Hardys (Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy) being in action on the 9/27 TNA iMPACT, the multi-time Tag Team Champions joined Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer on Busted Open.

It was mentioned that the IWGP Tag Team Championships are a set of belts that have alluded The Hardys. They discussed the idea of getting a hold of those belts while they were in AEW. Jeff joked about it and said he’d have to win the titles in America. Jeff is referencing his past legal issues that have prohibited him from leaving the country.

Matt: I think when they (NJPW) had a relationship with AEW, it’s something that we talked about that would be cool to do it if things worked out but, you know, again, sometimes things happen for a reason. Who knows? Jeff went through a situation. He was gone for a while and he’s in the best place he’s ever been in his life right now which I love to see every single day. But as far as those Tag Titles go, I mean, it’s pro wrestling and never say never.

Jeff: I would probably have to win and lose them in America.

While in AEW, The Hardys were hoping to have an on-screen interaction with Adam Copeland and Christian Cage. Matt expressed that that would be their deal retirement match. He added that all parties acknowledged that they’d like to do something on-screen together.

Matt: I think we did hope we’d get an interaction with Adam (Copeland) and Jay (Christian Cage) while we were in AEW. I mean, I don’t even know if that’s having some major feud or whatever but I just think the interaction between the four of us would have been very iconic and something that people would have liked to have seen, if we could have done that in some capacity and I’ve said this before: A lot of people have said, ‘In a perfect world, what would be your final match?’ In some ways, one of our most perfect final matches would be myself and Jeff versus Edge and Christian and just everybody kind of end it there because we help put all each other on the map with that tag team Ladder match and then obviously, The Dudleys walked into the room, we started doing the TLC stuff and that’s a staple that’ll live on forever but, as you said, D-Von (Dudley) can’t necessarily wrestle now. It looks like Edge and Christian would be our greatest final match I feel like because we have such a shared history together.

We all acknowledged that, I think, that we would like to share a ring together, in whatever capacity that may be and that doesn’t necessarily (mean) having a match or working against one another. It was one of those things that I feel like after Jeff got hurt, Jeff had a little run of singles matches and then he got hurt and then I left and he left and the topic was never brought up again.

Jeff: What’s so interesting about that, I was starting to feel the way I feel now about wrestling again before my nose got broke and so I was super excited about anything possible with us in AEW. But then now, being back in TNA, I’m starting to feel that again and to avoid injury, I’m just so excited because I still love the craft dearly and having fun again in the ring means so much and that’s where I was as a singles wrestler before I got injured. But then, after my deal got extended a little bit, in some spiritual or strange way or whatever, my contract ran out and that next night is when I was able to show up at TNA with Matt… I didn’t even think about running and trying to do the juke at the same time.

The Hardys will be taking on ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) on the 9/27 TNA iMPACT. Before ABC lost the World Tag Team Titles to Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards at Victory Road, The Hardys scored a win over Edwards and Myers.
