He cannot see himself not being associated with the company.
Over the last month-and-a-half, J.B.L. (John Bradshaw Layfield) has appeared for AAA, Game Changer Wrestling and he’s made several appearances for TNA Wrestling.
His status with WWE was inquired about as he was doing a Q&A with Gerald Brisco for Sportskeeda Wrestling. He shared that he’s never answered a question about his contract. He said WWE has a confidentiality clause and he never thought it was ‘good business’ to speak on that.
JBL added that regardless of if he’s under contract or not, the online speculation about him is wrong.
I’m gonna answer this as politically correct — not politically correct — as correct for me as possible. I’ve never answered a question about my contract and I can tell you 100 percent for this, I’ve seen speculation about me on the internet. It’s all wrong. 100 percent wrong. I’m not gonna answer whether I am or not because WWE has always had a confidentiality clause in it and I’ve never thought it was good business to discuss my contract or anybody else’s and so, I’m sorry but I refuse to answer but I will say that the speculation about me has been wrong.
He was asked if he’d be interested in venturing to All Elite Wrestling. JBL said he did not tell anyone he was showing up in the other promotions so he would not reveal if he was heading to AEW. He said chances are he’s probably not going there.
JBL added that he’s always been a WWE guy but never say never. He later said that he could never see himself not being associated with the company.
I didn’t tell anybody I was going to these other promotions. I wouldn’t tell anybody if I was going there (AEW) either so, I have no idea. I’ve always been a lifelong WWE guy and so, I’ve always been loyal to the WWE and so, probably not. But, as they say, you never say never.
WWE gave me my big break. Everything I have right now is because of WWE and I’m an incredibly loyal person, you know, to the institution. They have been wonderful to me. I mean, absolutely wonderful to me. I could never see myself being somewhere else. Now, I’m not saying that wouldn’t happen but, that association for me, I mean… almost 30-year association that I’ve got.
Continuing on the topic of AEW, the idea of him managing MJF was brought up. JBL spoke highly of the former AEW World Champion. He is not sure about working with him in AEW, but said it appears MJF is about to be a movie star with his role in Happy Gilmore 2.
I don’t know. It’s a great question (would I work with MJF in AEW as a manager). I’m a big fan of MJF. I’ve told this story a few times. I met him in England one time and got to ride to the airport with him and spent part of the day with him because we both had a signing and a big fan of his. He’s a really smart guy, he’s a sharp guy. I think he’s a great talent and one thing I love about guys is you look at how kind of shape they get in. So look at Randy Orton right now, he’s changed his character by getting into incredible shape. MJF is in incredible shape right now. It tells me he has a real passion for the business and a real love for the business so, yeah. No idea about working with him or anything like that. He’s in AEW. It sounds like he’s about to be a movie star now again. He just got a role in Happy Gilmore or something. Hopefully, he doesn’t call me out too. I’d be a little more worried about him than I would be Paul Walter Hauser.
Layfield inserted himself into the main event of TNA Victory Road. He assisted Nic Nemeth in fighting off members of The System during the World Title match.
