The Return of the Uce

Smackdown kicked off with Jimmy Uso returning to Smackdown after his surprise appearance last Saturday at Bad Blood, having not been seen since April when The Bloodline took him out. Jimmy addressed Solo Sikoa saying he was coming for him. This brought out Roman Reigns who invited the crowd to join him in acknowledging “Big Jim”.

Reigns then changed directions and said he didn’t like where they were right now and he doesn’t like being out of control. Jimmy pointed out that Roman was a chief without a tribe and no ulafala. Uso said that they needed help as the crowd started chanting “Yeet” but Roman responded with “No Yeet”. Jimmy said he was the only one in the family that still acknowledged him. With that, Jimmy walked off and the segment ended with Roman standing alone in the ring.

United States Championship

The first match of the night was LA Knight defending his United States Championship against Carmelo Hayes. Footage was shown of AJ Styles’ injury last week, allowing Carmelo Hayes to earn the title shot tonight. As the match began, Corey Graves noted that Carmelo Hayes had told him that his first move as U.S. Champion would be to bring back the “Spinner Belt” that John Cena made famous years ago. Early in the match, Hayes was thrown outside of the ring and discovered a waiting Andrade, and the two began to argue, allowing LA Knight to gain the advantage.

After the break, Knight was firmly in control until Hayes caught Knight with a superkick out of the corner. Knight regained the momentum with a swinging neckbreaker followed by a top rope elbow drop for a two count. Hayes then countered the BFT with a big axe kick and neck breaker of his own for a near fall. At this point, Andrade stood up distracting Hayes and then Hayes and Knight countered back and forth until LA Knight hit the BFT for the clean win. After the match, Andrade got into Hayes’ face as LA Knight celebrated his win.

Big Jim and C-Dawg

Backstag,e Jimmy Uso ran into Cody Rhodes and Cody thanked him for helping out at Bad Blood. Rhodes warned Jimmy that Solo Sikoa is not the same guy as when he last saw him. Jimmy responded by saying “family business” and noted his WWE Championship saying it looked like Cody was handling his business well.

Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson

A promo package aired featuring Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson, promoting their match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Cody, Kevin, and Randy

As Legend and Jackson were coming down to the ring, Kevin Owens interrupted and got into the ring claiming that Cody Rhodes turned on him and not the other way around. Owens’s microphone was cut and Cody came down looking to fight Owens.

Security held them both back until Randy Orton showed up telling him to calm down. Owens elbowed Orton in the face so Orton responded by decking Owens. A little later, Nick Aldis and Randy Orton convinced Cody to leave on his bus and Orton said he would talk to Owens.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Before the match, NXT Champion Trick Williams was shown in the crowd, followed by Chelsea Green and Piper Niven who were stationed at ringside for this match. A video was then shown from just prior where Green and Niven were complaining that Cargill and Belair were ducking them. Jade and Bianca responded by saying the only way they would get anywhere near them was if they watched their match at ringside.

Unfortunately, this match lasted just over two minutes. Early on, all four competitors found themselves outside the ring with Chelsea Green talking trash at them. Jackson gave Green a pump kick, sending her over the announce desk and onto Michael Cole who for some reason acted like Green still smelled bad from a week ago.

Nia Jax vs. Naomi

Nia Jax gave credit to Bayley saying that she put up a hell of a fight last week but she lost just like every other contender that’s faced her. She said no one could beat her including Liv Morgan who will be her opponent at Crown Jewel. Jax then told Tiffany Stratton that she would cash in on Liv Morgan after she beats her. This brought out Naomi who said that the only reason Jax was still champion was because of Stratton who Naomi reminded her she pinned last week. Naomi went on to say that she didn’t need anyone to beat Jax and she challenged her to a match right now.

This brought out Liv Morgan, Dominik Mysterio, and Raquel Rodriguez. Morgan said they were going to watch Jax lose her match tonight just like she would lose at Crown Jewel. The show went to commercial as Jax nailed Naomi and as we returned, the match was already underway.

Jax dominated Naomi early in the match until she was able to spike Jax with a head scissors and a split-legged leg drop on the apron. Nia then caught Naomi on the outside and hit her with a Samoan Drop as the show went to another break.

After the commercial, Tiffany Stratton attempted to hit Naomi with her briefcase behind the referee’s back but Raquel Rodriguez intercepted it. Rodriguez then distracted the ref, allowing Liv Morgan to hit Jax with the briefcase and Naomi to powerbomb Jax for the pinfall victory. After the match, Rhea Ripley appeared attacking Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan and hitting a big boot on Nia Jax in the process.

Carmelo Hayes & Legado

Carmelo Hayes approached Nick Aldis in the back and complained about Andrade being ringside and interfering with his US Title match. Nick Aldis said that he and Andrade were tied three to three and they needed a Game 7 – the winner going on to get a United States Championship match. This frustrated Hayes and he stormed off. Legado del Fantasma then approached Aldis noting that Carmelo and Andrade had “a permanent spot” in the title opportunity line. Aldis said he was waiting for Escobar to bounce back after his failed attempt at the US title. Escobar asked what about Elektra and Los Garza and Aldis said that he had hand-selected opponents for Los Garza and they would face them next week.

MCMG – “Next Week”

Another Detroit-based mystery promo aired, this time ending with the letters “MCMG” followed by “Next Week”. Putting two and two together here it seems as though Nick Aldis has hand-selected Motor City Machine Guns to take on Los Garza next week. As we returned to the arena, Michael Cole said “Can’t wait for that debut”.

Street Profits and DIY / Orton and Owens

Backstage, DIY and The Street Profits were arguing and Nick Aldis said that last week was their shot and he has a new team coming in next week. All of a sudden, Nick Aldis was distracted and ran to the loading dock where Kevin Owens was beating down Randy Orton.

Solo Sikoa vs. Jimmy Uso

A brief backstage vignette aired with Solo Sikoa donning the ulafala and saying that “big brother” will acknowledge him tonight.

As the main event began, Jimmy Uso seemed to realize that he was outnumbered four to one as Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Jacob Fatu surrounded the ring. As the match began, it played out just as expected with The Bloodline sneaking in shots on Jimmy behind the referee’s back.

Sikoa’s beatdown of Uso continued until finally, Jimmy was able to mount a comeback that was stopped in its tracks by a spinning heel kick from Sikoa followed a bit later by a spinning Solo. Finally, after twelve or so minutes, Jimmy started getting some offense in and taking out the other Bloodline members. This of course backfired as they recovered and distracted the referee, knocking Jimmy off the top rope and allowing Solo to hit the Samoan Spike for the win.

After the match, The Bloodline began beating down Jimmy which brought Roman Reigns back out, hitting Superman Punches on Fatu, Tonga, and Loa. Roman and Solo then exchanged blows but Fatu got back into the ring and dominated Roman and Jimmy. Solo Sikoa hit a Samoan Spike on Roman Reigns. The show ended with Jimmy telling Roman that they needed help.

Final Thoughts

Kevin Owens interrupting the entrance of Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson seemed like a strange way to introduce the tag team to the main roster audience, seemingly indicating they weren’t interesting enough on their own. Why is Michael Cole acting like Chelsea Green still smells bad after she went into a dumpster a full week ago? A hugely disappointing segment that did nothing for the NXT team other than at least getting their names out there (briefly). That said, Kevin Owens continues to be the most interesting character on the show.

Did anyone else catch Michael Cole accidentally saying “Kevin Dunn” before throwing to the Hell in a Cell recap video? Heh.
