Nia, Liv & Tiffy

Smackdown (taped last Friday) in Brooklyn kicked off with Nia Jax coming down to the ring with the gigantic Women’s Crown Jewel Championship displayed in the ring. Jax said she always gets what she wants just like when she became Queen of the Ring and WWE Women’s Champion. Nia started running down Liv Morgan which brought out Raquel Rodriguez along with Liv and Dominik Mysterio.

Liv claimed she retired Becky Lynch and she’s held her Championship longer than Nia held hers and the last time they fought, Liv won. This brought out Tiffany Stratton who said she would cash in at Crown Jewel and become the new champion and noted she could cash in on either woman. Tiffany then wondered if when she took Liv’s title, she’d get Dominik as well. Stratton then attacked Liv, leading directly into their match.

This match began during the commercial break and only lasted for about 2:30 of television time as Nia Jax jumped up on the apron distracting the referee but when Stratton attempted to use her briefcase to hit Morgan she missed. Morgan then rolled up Stratton with a handful of tights for the win. After the match, Morgan hit Stratton with the briefcase but was quickly stopped by Nia Jax who hit all of Liv’s team with the briefcase and then hit the Annhilator on Morgan.

A little later backstage, Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton (sporting a gigantic lump on her forehead presumably from one of the briefcase shots) were arguing about Stratton cashing in when they were interrupted by Bayley and Naomi. Naomi told Nia Jax to keep the title warm for her.

Kevin Owens Phones It In

Another phone-shot video of Kevin Owens aired with him addressing Randy Orton directly, saying he didn’t want to fight him but now he was going to hurt him.

Street Profits vs. Pretty Deadly

The next match of the night was the loser’s bracket of the recent #1 Contender’s Tournament with The Street Profits taking on Pretty Deadly. Before the match, Elton and Kit presented Lin-Manuel Miranda with a Pretty Deadly: The Musical Playbill and a homemade CD.

This was another short match, with B-Fab getting involved – slamming Elton Prince on the outside and the Profits winning in four minutes.

Bayley & Naomi vs. Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell

Next up was Bayley & Naomi taking on Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell. Hartwell was just reported to be part of a few WWE releases just as SmackDown was hitting the airwaves. At this point, the crowd was completely devoid of all energy and who could blame them as they were into hour three of a four-hour night. For some reason, Candice LeRae thought Bayley was the legal competitor but she wasn’t and LeRae attempted a cover on her. Naomi then came out of nowhere and hit the Rear View on LeRae for the win.

OTC & Uces

Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso were out next. Jimmy said that he made up with Jey and it was time for Roman to make up with Jey as well.

This brought out the aforementioned Jey Uso who said he only took tomorrow’s match to get back at Solo for messing with the family. Jey said that he remembers the physical and mental damage Roman did to him and this time he and Jimmy were Roman’s equal, not his lackeys. Jey continued saying that if Roman disrespected him in the slightest he was “gone”. Roman simply responded “Yeet” and the three did their “We the Ones” pose.

MCMG / A-Town

Backstage, Byron Saxton interviewed the new WWE Tag Team Champions the Motor City Machine Guns. They were quickly interrupted by A-Town Down Under who invited them to be on The Grayson Waller Effect next week.

Fatal 4-Way to “Build Momentum”

Next was the Fatal 4-Way match between one member of each team competing for the Women’s Tag Team titles at Crown Jewel tomorrow. Early in the match, Piper Niven and Lash Legend joined forces as the two powerhouses of the match but that didn’t last long as Legend attempted to steal a pin behind Niven’s back.

Lash Legend then had the match won when Chelsea Green pulled her out of the ring. This began the parade of all of the partners brawling on the outside. Jade Cargill then got in the face of Lash Legend but was dragged to the outside while back in the ring Bianca Belair hit the KOD on Legend. Before Belair could pin Legend, IYO Sky hit her with the Over the Moonsault and picked up the sneaky win.

Randy & Cody

Backstage, Cody Rhodes asked Randy Orton to leave a little of Kevin Owens for him after their match at Crown Jewel but Orton said he doesn’t think there will be anything left.

Bloodline Video

Gunther & Ludwig vs. Orton & Rhodes

The main event of the show was Imperium’s Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser taking on Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes. This was a very house show-esque match, sending the home happy as Randy hit the RKO on Gunther and Cody hit the Cross Rhodes on Kaiser for the win.

Then Kevin Owens appeared and hit Randy Orton with a chair. Cody turned around to discover what happened and before he could react, Gunther put him into a sleeper and was in the process of choking him out as the show went off the air.

Announced for Smackdown Next Week from Buffalo:

  • The Grayson Waller Effect with Motor City Machine Guns

Final Thoughts

Much like Kevin Owens’ video, this whole episode felt pretty phoned-in. Not surprising as the crew was already in Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel and this show was taped a week ago in Brooklyn. Shockingly, they managed to put five matches on a two-hour show where they normally only have four.
