Does Roman Love Sami?

Smackdown from Buffalo kicked off with Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso coming down to the ring. Before they could say a word, Jey Uso’s music hit and he joined them in the ring. Jey said there was a lot of misunderstanding going on right now and asked them to “hear him out”. With that, Sami Zayn came down to the ring as well. Sami said the kick to Roman at Crown Jewel was not on purpose and when the four of them were in the ring together it was “a special time with family”. Sami then claimed that Roman loved him and wanted the four of them fighting together but first, he needed Roman to apologize to Jey.

Roman then said “I’m sorry” to Jey but continued “That I ever let you waste my time with this”. With that, Roman called out Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn left. Jacob Fatu then appeared on the screen and said Solo wouldn’t come out just because Roman wanted him to. After the commercial, Jey confronted Roman and reminded him that if he disrespected him he was out. Jey stormed off, and Roman was left alone having insulted Jimmy also.

Bayley vs. Candice LeRae

The first match of the evening was Bayley taking on Candice LeRae, no longer accompanied by Indi Hartwell as she was released this past week. LeRae dominated Bayley throughout the early part of the match and through the ad break. Bayley’s head was slammed into the ring post followed by LeRae hitting a missile dropkick on her but suddenly Bayley exploded out of nowhere and took control of the match. LeRae then feigned a knee injury and attempted to roll up Bayley for the win but Bayley was ready for her and reversed the pin attempt for the win.

MCMG & Gargano

Johnny Gargano approached Motor City Machine Guns congratulating them on the tag team title win. After MCMG left, Ciampa entered and berated Gargano, saying they didn’t even get a rematch. Gargano noted that he had known Alex Shelley since he was nineteen but agreed with Ciampa that they had to get their titles back. This led directly into Randy Orton storming by and heading to the ring as Michael Cole said they didn’t expect to see him tonight after what happened at Crown Jewel.

The Piledriver Returns

A very raspy-sounding Randy Orton started screaming that he was going to “end this sh*t right now” and before Randy could even yell for Kevin to come out there Owens was already in the entranceway with a new shirt that said, “Kevin is Right”.

The two started brawling in the ring as officials tried to separate them until Owens grabbed Orton and hit him with a piledriver. Michael Cole screamed, “There’s a reason that move is banned, what the hell is wrong with you?” Orton was then stretchered out as Cody Rhodes followed them to the ambulance and went with them to the hospital.

DIY vs. Pretty Deadly

A fired-up Tommaso Ciampa jumped Pretty Deadly just as the bell rang, decimating them both as Johnny Gargano looked on incredulously. Ciampa hit the Fairytale Ending and got the pinfall without ever tagging Gargano in.

“Tifferson”, Nia and Candice

Tiffany Stratton confronted Candice LeRae backstage saying her losing to Bayley wouldn’t impress Nia. Nia interrupted and asked why Stratton set this match up with them against Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. This led directly into the match in which both teams warred back and forth until Belair attempted but failed to execute a KOD on Nia Jax. Jax then distracted the referee as Candice LeRae showed up and pushed Bianca Belair off the top rope. Instead of capitalizing on the situation, Stratton started yelling at LeRae that she didn’t need her help. This brought out Naomi who dispatched LeRae but got trucked by Nia Jax. Back in the ring, Belair hit the KOD on Stratton for the win.

There Will Be No Effect

Instead of the announced Grayson Waller Effect with The Motor City Machine Guns, they were jumping right to the match between the two teams with Corey Graves explaining that the show usually leads to a match anyway. Early on, Alex Shelley injured his knee allowing A-Town Down Under to take control of the match. The crowd was pretty dead for most of this match as MCMG picked up the win. Backstage after the match, DIY approached MCMG but The Street Profits interrupted and revealed they already talked to Nick Aldis and got a title shot next week. Ciampa lost his mind at this news and stormed off.

WWE United States Women’s Championship

Nick Aldis appeared in a promo package announcing the WWE Women’s United States Championship. Michael Cole noted that this title could be competed for on both Raw and Smackdown.

Undisputed Tribal Chief Acknowledgement Ceremony

The New Bloodline came down to the ring and just as Solo Sikoa asked the Buffalo crowd to acknowledge him, Roman Reigns came down to the ring without anyone accompanying him. Sikoa told Reigns to acknowledge him as his undisputed Tribal Chief. Reigns said he would never acknowledge him and instead, he was there to challenge him with the winner being “the only Tribal Chief”. Sikoa laughed it off as he was already the only Tribal Chief and Roman had no tribe. Sikoa then challenged Reigns to find four people to be on his team for War Games.

Roman noted that there were only four Bloodline members and Sikoa said the fifth is Sami Zayn. The beatdown ensued as Sikoa claimed it was not a mistake that Sami kicked Roman at Crown Jewel. This brought out Jimmy and Jey to help Roman leaving Roman and Solo alone in the ring. Solo called Sami down to the ring and screamed for Sami to kick Roman in the face. Instead, Sami Zayn hit the Heullva Kick on Solo as Roman recovered and cleared the ring. Both Usos put their “ones” in the air and Sami Zayn joined in. Finally, Roman joined in as well and the foursome was aligned.

Announced for Smackdown Next Week from Milwaukee:

  • WWE Women’s Championship: Nia Jax vs. Naomi
  • WWE Tag Team Championship: MCMG vs. Street Profits

Final Thoughts

Tonight felt like a transitional episode of Smackdown more so than your typical post-PLE show with a lot of pieces moving to set up not only next week’s episode but the beginnings of Survivor Series as well. The piledriver returning to WWE via Kevin Owens was an interesting addition to his feud with Randy Orton and the reveal of a United States Women’s Championship should provide some great opportunities to feature more female undercard performers going forward.
