Severe Cervical Trauma

Smackdown from Milwaukee kicked off with Cody Rhodes coming out to the ring, and footage from last week’s piledriver attack on Randy Orton was shown. Rhodes said that Kevin Owens crossed the line and called him out.

Instead, Nick Aldis appeared saying that Orton was out with “severe cervical trauma”. Aldis said the piledriver was outlawed because they didn’t want this generation to be in wheelchairs in twenty years. Aldis said that Kevin Owens was banned from Smackdown until this situation was resolved internally. Rhodes said if he couldn’t get to Owens in a WWE ring, he would go to his house and take him out there. Rhodes left telling Aldis, “The ball is in your court”.

Who is the Fifth?

Jimmy, Jey Uso, and Sami Zayn met up backstage. Jimmy said that Roman Reigns wanted them all to meet later tonight to go over their game plan for War Games. Zayn said he had an idea of who else to ask to be their fifth man and took off. Later, Sami was seen talking to LA Knight but Knight stormed off with Sami dejected. Later still, Sami Zayn explained to Roman that they didn’t have a fifth man. Jey Uso said, “Roman, you gotta make the call, Uce.”

The U.S. Women’s Championship Tournament Begins

Michael Cole explained that this tournament would involve four triple-threat matches with the ultimate winner to be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14th from Long Island. Early on, B-Fab had control in her first televised match since the Elimination Chamber Qualifying Last Chance Battle Royal back in February.

B-Fab almost picked up the win several times with LeRae making the save. Bayley then reversed the “Big Kick” with a roll-up for the win. Bayley will face the winner of Bianca Belair vs. Chelsea Green vs. Blair Davenport. The other two triple-threat matches will be Jade Cargill vs. Michin vs. Piper Niven and Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Elektra Lopez.

The Rock on Fallon

A clip featuring The Rock on the Tonight Show with him and Jimmy Fallon hitting each other with pillows with their faces on them. Then Cole & Graves promoted The Rock GQ cover, as well as two of his upcoming movies.

Green, Niven, B-Fab, and Michin

Backstage, Chelsea Green and Piper Niven made fun of B-Fab for losing her match. B-Fab pointed out that only one of them could win the championship so they had bigger problems to worry about. Michin then appeared with a Kendo stick and scared the heels off.

U.S. Championship Open Challenge

Next up was LA Knight’s United States Championship Open Challenge. Footage was shown of Knight shooting a giant t-shirt cannon at the Milwaukee Bucks game. Knight got on the mic and said The Bloodline “civil war” was not his fight and if they all destroyed each other he wouldn’t mind.

This brought out Legado del Fantasma. Santos Escobar said it was time for someone to shut Knight up. Escobar said that Elektra Lopez has the chance to become the first-ever Women’s U.S. champion so it was time for him to bring home the gold as well. Knight interrupted saying that he had already faced Escobar but Berto was staring a hole through him. Berto then jumped Knight and the match was underway with Berto controlling the early goings.

Berto impressed in this match and the announce team hammered home that he held his own with Knight, despite ultimately succumbing to a BFT. After the match, Shinsuke Nakamura returned from out of nowhere and took out LA Knight with a Kinshasa.

The Assassination of Roman Reigns by the Coward Bronson Reed

The New Bloodline came down to the ring and Solo could only get out “Milwaukee, acknowledge me” before the OG Bloodline appeared.

The two warring factions started brawling in the ring four-on-four with Reigns hitting a spear on Solo Sikoa, saving Sami Zayn from a Samoan Spike. This left Reigns and Jacob Fatu in the ring together but before the two could come to blows, Bronson Reed jumped Reigns from behind. The New Bloodline, now with five members, took control as the chaos continued with Fatu ultimately hitting a moonsault on Reigns followed by a Tsunami by Bronson Reed. The segment ended with Jey Uso repeating “make the call” over and over to Roman.

Kevin Owens via Phone

Kevin Owens appeared via phone video again and claimed he was at the arena and wasn’t allowed in but Nick Aldis called him and asked him to be at Smackdown next week in Salt Lake City. Owens claimed he would but only because he loves Utah and he’s just doing what everyone wants him to do.

WWE Tag Team Championship

Next up was MCMG defending their titles against The Street Profits with Michael Cole explaining that the Profits had previously been with “someone else” who left to “do his own thing”. Early in the match, Angelo Dawkins hit Alex Shelley with a massive pounce sending him flying over the announce desk.

After the break, the two teams were exchanging big moves when Tommaso Ciampa appeared, pushing Montez Ford off the top rope causing the disqualification. Johnny Gargano ran down to try to stop Ciampa but got shoved to the mat. Ciampa stomped away saying “I want the titles, we didn’t talk about this”. Back in the ring, MCMG tried to help the Profits up but Dawkins nailed Shelley.

WWE Women’s Championship

The final match of the evening was Naomi challenging Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship. Before the match, Bayley was warning Naomi to look out for IYO Sky when Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill interrupted and they said they had Naomi’s back. Of note was that Nia Jax was out for her title defense without Ms. Money in the Bank Tiffany Stratton accompanying her but was shown watching from backstage.

The match went back and forth until Naomi gained the advantage with a splash to Nia on the outside. Backstage, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez attacked Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, laying them out. Tiffany Stratton then appeared attacking Naomi leading to a crazy spot off the top rope with Naomi reversing a Jax slam from the top rope. Bayley was then out to fend off Stratton as Naomi got another near fall with the split-egged moonsault. Candice LeRae then appeared to attack Bayley, allowing Jax to hit a Samoan Drop from the top rope followed by the Annhiliator for the victory.

Roman Makes the Call

The final minute of the show saw Roman Reigns calling “The Wise Man” but the number was disconnected.

Announced for Smackdown Next Week from Salt Lake City:

  • US Women’s Championship Tournament: Bianca Belair vs. Chelsea Green vs. Blair Davenport
  • Face-to-Face: Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens

Final Thoughts

The crowd got really into the main event with Naomi scoring some big near falls on Nia Jax but it was so filled with schmozz and run-ins that it hampered its quality significantly. This episode felt a bit like a better quality episode of AEW’s Battle of the Belts with title matches that didn’t quite hit expectations. The most intriguing thing currently is the US Women’s title and the fresh faces that will be getting a chance to shine.
