War Gamin’

Smackdown (taped last week in Salt Lake City) kicked off with the Women’s War Games participants Bianca Belair, Bayley, Naomi, IYO SKY, and Rhea Ripley coming down to the ring and Rhea noting that they each had someone they wanted to get their hands on. This of course brought out the heel team who pointed out how many issues the faces have – and Liv Morgan pointed out how interesting it was that Jade Cargill got attacked and suddenly Bayley had a spot. The heels approached the ring but then changed their minds and started to leave. The face team charged after them and the brawl was on.

Missed that Mist

The first match of the show was Shinsuke Nakamura’s first televised match since April with him taking on Andrade. Andrade knocked Nakamura off the top rope to the outside with a dropkick followed by a moonsault as the match went to commercial. Michael Cole kept repeating that Andrade was upset with Nakamura because he felt he skipped the line to LA Knight’s United States Championship.

Nakamura set up for the Kinshasha but Andrade ducked and leveled Nakamura with a back elbow. Shinsuke stealthily pulled the top turnbuckle cover off and Andrade went face-first into it. Nakamura then hit the Kinshasha from behind to pick up the win. After the match, LA Knight ran down and Nakamura sprayed him in the face with the black mist.

Everyone is Banned

Nick Aldis informed the OG Bloodline that everyone was banned from ringside for the War Games advantage match.

Figure Your Crap Out

Backstage, Tommaso Ciampa was freaking out, screaming in Johnny Gargano’s face about them being losers, and then blamed Alex Shelley for them not having the tag titles. Ciampa said Gargano has one more week to “figure your crap out” and then it’s his way.

Kevin Owens Presents the Evidence

A Kevin Owens video was shown, in which he presented several different examples of why he was justified in his actions with Cody Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes vs. Carmelo Hayes II

The next match was set up last week when Carmelo Hayes got into Cody Rhodes’ face after his heated segment with Kevin Owens. Before the match began, Carmelo Hayes said that Kevin Owens was right and that Cody doesn’t stab his friends in the back, he stabs them in the heart.

The pair had an entertaining match and Carmelo Hayes did some great selling. That said, that’s two losses for Hayes to Rhodes. Hopefully, they have a third match down the line once Hayes has moved up the card further.

The Sit-Down

Next, a heavily stylized video with tense music was shown with Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman sitting down with CM Punk. Punk said that he was there for Heyman, not Roman. Reigns retorted saying “I don’t need your help”. Heyman played peacemaker bringing the two big personalities together. Punk said that they could continue their one-on-one conversation after War Games and that Paul Heyman would owe him a favor. With that, Punk left and Reigns asked Heyman what the favor was. Heyman refused to answer until after War Games tomorrow.

US Women’s Tournament First Round Match

The next match on the card was another first-round match in the United States Women’s Championship Tournament. With Jade Cargill being taken out last week, she was replaced by Lash Legend who would take on Michin and Piper Niven. Early in this match, B-Fab ran down and brawled with Chelsea Green to the back, distracting Piper Niven and allowing Lash Legend to gain control of the match.

The finish saw Lash Legend successfully execute the Lash Extension on Piper Niven only to have Michin hit a Senton from the top and steal the pin.

LA Knight Can Barely See

Instead of showering, LA Knight was backstage having two WWE officials work on clearing his eyes of Nakamura’s mist. Knight confirmed he would still be there at Survivor Series tomorrow.

Ahem, Everyone is Banned

Nick Aldis had to make it crystal clear to the OG Bloodline that they would not be allowed out with Jey Uso.

Main Event Jacob Fatu

The main event of the evening was the War Games advantage match between Jey Uso and Jacob Fatu, making his one-on-one WWE debut. Fatu dominated the early parts of the match with his brute force, including throwing Jey head-first into the ring post twice.

Finally, Jey mounted a comeback but Fatu kicked out after the Uso Splash. Jacob Fatu then hit a Samoan Drop on Jey on the announce table, followed by a DDT and a moonsault, and pinned Jey Uso clean.

Final Thoughts

Kevin Owens really is right. How could he not be? His evidence is irrefutable. The Sit-Down video between Paul Heyman, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk was hopefully intended to be over the top tongue in cheek as it was ridiculous almost to the point of a student film. None of the matches particularly stood out tonight but Carmelo Hayes is going to continue to grow and is already excellent at selling. War Games tomorrow is likely to be well-received as it often is.
