DIY became the WWE Tag Team Champions on Friday Night SmackDown by defeating the Motor City Machine Guns.
The initial match between the Machine Guns and Street Profits was canceled after a backstage attack on the Street Profits. The attack led to Johnny Gargano volunteering to take their place, and the impromptu title match was confirmed.
During the match, DIY appeared to break apart after Gargano and Ciampa argued and got physical with each other. With the referee’s back turned, Gargano kicked Chris Sabin low and superkicked Alex Shelley. With a smile, Gargano tagged his partner to initiate Meet in the Middle on Sabin and secure their second main roster tag titles.
Earlier in the show, Tiffany Stratton advanced in the Women’s United States Championship Tournament by winning a triple-threat match against Elektra Lopez and Naomi.
Naomi executed a split-legged moonsault to Lopez but was thrown out of the ring and allowed Stratton to hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and pin Lopez.
Stratton will face Michin in the semi-finals alongside Chelsea Green vs. Bayley in the other bracket with the winners facing off on December 14 at Saturday Night’s Main Event to determine the inaugural champion.
The semi-finals of the tournament are scheduled for next Friday in Hartford, Connecticut.
At the start of the show, they listed off the various injuries sustained during the men’s WarGames match. This included a broken foot suffered by Bronson Reed, a torn biceps for Tonga Loa, and a broken toe for Jimmy Uso.
