Oba Femi captures NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil

A new NXT Champion is crowned.

On the marquee for NXT New Year’s Evil from Los Angeles, California was Trick Williams defending his NXT Championship against Oba Femi and Eddy Thorpe in a Triple Threat.

Earlier in the night, Thorpe was ambushed backstage by an unknown attacker, but General Manager Ava did not take him seriously because the last time he claimed he was attacked, he admitted it was a lie to get out of competing in the Iron Survivor Challenge.

The match started off with just Oba and Trick. When Femi had Trick pinned, Thorpe entered the picture and pulled the referee out of the ring. The backend of the bout saw Trick going for his ‘Trick Shot’ finisher on Oba, but Femi dodged it and the finisher connected with Thorpe.

Femi then grabbed Williams up for a powerbomb and that got him the NXT Championship win. While Femi was celebrating on the entrance stage, newly crowned NXT Women’s Champion Giulia joined him and they both held up their titles.

While the show was in picture-in-picture mode, footage was shown of Femi in Gorilla being congratulated by Shawn Michaels, Matt Bloom and Jeremy Borash.
