WWE NXT New Year’s Evil notes: Corey Graves joins commentary, Shotzi vs. Vaquer #1 contender’s bout, Nick Khan in front row

Joining Vic Joseph and Booker T on the call for NXT New Year’s Evil was Corey Graves. Graves had been calling the action for Friday Night SmackDown with Michael Cole, but Cole is back on Raw with Pat McAfee. Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett will be on commentary for SmackDown.

Both Stephanie Vaquer and Shotzi staked claims to a shot at Fallon Henley’s Women’s North American Championship. Vaquer won a number one contender’s Fatal 4-Way match that featured Lola Vice, Cora Jade and Kelani Jordan. Later in the show, there was a six-woman tag that saw Shotzi, Gigi Dolin and Tatum Paxley defeat Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley, Jacy Jayne & Jazmyn Nyx). Shotzi pinned Henley to secure the win for her team. There was a backstage segment where General Manager Ava was promoting Vaquer as Henley’s next challenger, but Shotzi stepped into frame and pleaded her case. Henley proposed that they fight it out for a title shot and Ava made the singles match between Shotzi and Vaquer official for 1/14.

Seated in the front row was Joe Tessitore, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan.

Nathan Frazer and Axiom are going to be putting their NXT Tag Team Championships on the line against O.T.M. (Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) on 1/14.

Adding on to the lineup for the next edition of NXT on CW is a tag match that’ll see Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn versus Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend. The winners will challenge Bianca Belair and Naomi for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
