An update from McDonagh himself.
The War Raiders (Ivar & Erik) successfully defended their WWE World Tag Team Championships against Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio and J.D. McDonagh on the 1/27 Raw on Netflix.
Early in the match, McDonagh went for a springboard moonsault to the outside but when he landed, his head whiplashed off the commentary desk.
McDonagh continued in the match. He took a neckbreaker from Erik and did a moonsault off the top rope. Taking to X, McDonagh thanked everyone for the concern. He shared that he has a couple broken ribs and a punctured lung. He added that all things considered, he’s grateful that’s all it was.
First off, thanks to everyone for the messages and the concern. I’m good.
I’ve got a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung, so I’m going to be out for a couple months. All things considered, it could have been a lot worse, so I’m grateful for that.
See ya in a bit.
After McDonagh got up from the springboard moonsault to the outside, the crowd in Atlanta, Georgia cheered him. On the latest Rewind-A-Raw, John Pollock and Wai Ting discussed McDonagh continuing the match after the rough landing.
The knock to JD’s head on the corner of the announce table after his moonsault looked absolutely brutal. The fact that he continued with the match and took as many bumps as he did is insane.
It seems like the War Raiders were already booked to win. Hindsight is obviously 20/20 but it certainly seems like they should have just called an audible, reduce JD’s spots in the match and just have had the War Raiders beat up on Dom for a bit and wrap-up with the pinfall,
JD collapsed heading to the back, still in sight of fans after the match. Absolutely insane he was allowed to continue in the match.
Woof. I saw the spot but not the context until this morning.
It was a tag team match where Dominick was perfectly capable of eating a pin. Didn’t even have to stop the match, JD just needed to stay down. I’m not one to pin decision making on a guy who was probably some kind of concussed or running on adrenaline or whatever, but the fact that he even got back in the ring is a group failure by anybody who should have seen/recognized what happened.
Hindsight being 20/20, they should have stopped the match.
Finishing the match likely did much more damage.
I saw the spot on IG, but haven’t seen the match yet. After the spot, did JD look alright? Or was something clearly off (ie. a Matt Hardy situation)?
Looked like he was just selling the injury to me, pulled off all of his spots and timing perfectly.
