Big E reflects on split from New Day: A fire has been ignited for the group again

We’re just a couple of months removed from Big E’s sudden ejection from The New Day, a move which kicked off a new heel run for Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston.

Big E was exiled from the trio in late 2024, with Kingston and Woods claiming that he had abandoned them while nursing his neck injury in recent years. The moment was a dagger to the chest of New Day fans who hoped to see the trio rejoice upon Big E’s return to television.

Big E recently reflected on the segment, saying that he was happy with how the turn played out.

“For me, what really attracts me to our industry, is those moments,” Big E said during a recent interview on X-Pod 97. “I had never seen anything done like what we had did in that ring before. I can’t think of any other turn that went the day it did. Ultimately, I’m really happy.”

Woods and Kingston are now an active heel tag team on Monday Night Raw, taking up a change in persona from how they were presented last year. Big E believes that the new role for them is a chance to “evolve,” moving beyond the successful babyface role they played for nearly a decade as a team.

“I will say, I feel like in this industry you have to evolve,” Big E explained. “Even when you find gold, I think sometimes you can stay in the same path. And that’s the thing is, once people love you and you get the chants down, you can keep coasting, but then that’s all you are, you know what I mean? … I’m really proud of what we built as a collective. Again, we were three guys trying to save our careers. But now, for better or worse, the wrestling world is talking about those two again. I feel like a fire has been ignited again.”

While Big E isn’t actively wrestling on WWE currently, he has remained busy with other projects. He most recently voiced a role in Disney+ show “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” which premiered just a few weeks ago.

Big E recently told X-Pod 97 that a Direct Message on social media was how he was picked for the show. You can watch the full interview here.
