The outlet Realidad San Luis broke the news that Hiroaki Hamada a.k.a. Gran Hamada passed away at the age of 74 on February 15th. He passed in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Hamada had an in-ring career that spanned 46 years. That began in 1972 with New Japan Pro-Wrestling where he was one of the first dojo trainees. He would eventually make his way to Mexico and throughout his career, he competed at independent shows in the country in addition to working dates for CMLL and AAA.
His last documented match was in 2018 for Michinoku Pro Wrestling.
Hamada has two daughters, Xóchitl Hamada and Ayako, who took on careers in pro wrestling as well. Xochitl returned to the ring in November 2024 and Ayako last wrestled in January 2025.
