Cole weighs in on the situation.
With Monday Night Raw moving to Netflix, the commentary teams were shifted and taking over the announcing duties for that show were Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. The duo of Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were moved to SmackDown and Corey Graves went back to NXT.
Graves sent out a tweet which hinted that he was directly told he was not famous enough for the commentary spot he was previously holding. He added that he had a lot to say on that night’s NXT, but he did not appear on the show. Graves returned the following week.
While guest appearing on IMPAULSIVE, Michael Cole addressed the situation and called it ‘strange.’ He does not fully understand the dynamics of it yet but said he loves Graves. Cole said how Graves explained it was he was trying to curate interest in a potential storyline of sorts, but the company may not have viewed it as that.
That’s a strange situation. I love Corey (Graves). Love him to death. I still don’t understand all the dynamics of it. I know that he sent something out on social media that was pretty critical of the company. He tried to explain to everyone that he was trying to curate some interest in maybe a type of a storyline. I don’t think the company saw it that way.
I think him and the company are working that out. I love Corey to death. He’s an unbelievable commentator. Besides (Pat) McAfee, he’s probably the best partner I’ve ever had.
Graves is going to be on the post-Vengeance Day edition of NXT on The CW and that show is going to be reviewed here on POST Wrestling by the Poisonrana Podcast.
