Ricky Saints announced on Friday he was relinquishing the DEFY World Championship.

Performing as Ricky Starks, he won the title from KENTA in Seattle on February 7th.

Now with NXT, Saints has had to give up the title without a defense. DEFY has announced that a new champion will be crowned during its Super 8XGP tournament on Saturday, March 15th.

In a video posted to social media on Friday, Saints said:

I wanted to give a quick message to the fans of DEFY. It is an honor and privilege to be your DEFY World Champion and it was a big goal of mine to do just that when I defeated KENTA.

But unfortunately, when opportunity knocks, I must answer and as everyone probably knows by now, I definitely answered that knock.

And it is bittersweet because I have to relinquish the DEFY world title. But on March 15th at 8XGP, the good news is that there will be a new DEFY World Champion crowned. And I’m excited to see who that may be. And while my reign and my time at DEFY may have been short-lived, I hope and I pray that the memories to come will long supersede all of that.
