Vaquer is set to be in a title versus title match at an upcoming NXT special.
The reigning NXT Women’s North American Champion is Stephanie Vaquer and she is gearing up for a title versus title match at the Roadblock special on March 11th. Vaquer is putting her title up for grabs against Giulia’s NXT Women’s Championship.
Coming out of the 3/4 NXT on The CW, Vaquer sat down with Bully Ray to record an episode of Busted Open After Dark. Bully mentioned that All Elite Wrestling and WWE had interest in Vaquer and wanted to know why she chose WWE. She stated that it was her dream to be where she’s at now. She had ‘many options’ but WWE was the place for her.
Vaquer would reveal that when she first began talking with WWE, the option of starting out on the main roster was presented to her and she expressed that she wanted that. She added that it was later in their conversations when she decided that going the NXT route was best because she wanted to improve her English, get accustomed to TV wrestling and learn the WWE style of wrestling.
My dream. WWE is my dream… I tried to think like adult, that option. But WWE is my dream and say, okay, this is for me. Many options and talks but, say no. WWE is for me and I take NXT because I really like (to) do things or new things but good. I don’t like the fast and no good. So, I say okay, I need to learn English, I need to learn TV show, I need to learn American style, WWE style. So I say, first I say main roster. That changed and say, ‘I want to go to NXT for learn…’ Yeah (WWE asked me if I wanted to start on the main roster)… Main roster (was my first answer). The first call, they call me and say, ‘NXT or main roster?’ I say, ‘Main roster…’ Yeah, I think and say, ‘Okay. Take it easy. I need to learn English… Okay, change. NXT.’
Elsewhere during the chat, Vaquer recounted Shawn Michaels calling her about his interest in having her come to NXT.
It’s weird because I checked the phone and I never think who called. Just say, ‘Hola’ in Spanish and I said, ‘Hola!’ He said, ‘Hello. Shawn Michaels. Hello,’ and now I understand more English and I cannot speak no good. Sorry… When Shawn Michaels called me… I tried to speak in English. But, he say, ‘Okay, I know you understand but you not speak good English. So, I speak slow’ and understand… maybe not 100 percent. But 90 percent and he’s so sweet and speak slow and try to explain to me about…
Circling back to the upcoming title versus title match with Giulia, Vaquer expressed that she thinks her best singles match was with Giulia.
Their latest singles bout was during STARDOM’s Cinderella tournament in March 2024 for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.
I’m excited (for title versus title match against Giulia) and I feel… it’s so difficult because Giulia is my best friend. I sure she’s my best singles match before, so my best friend. Title, title, so it’s my first in Madison Square Garden so I’m so excited and nervous. I’m focused. Concentrated… I’m so happy.
Vaquer versus Giulia is headlining NXT Roadblock at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden. It’ll be the final special for Stand & Deliver in April during WrestleMania 41 week.
