NJPW 53rd Anniversary Event results (3/6/25): Hirooki Goto’s first defense, Yuji Nagata to challenge for World Title, Chris Charlton returns

Highlights, results and notes from the event.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling presented their 53rd Anniversary Event from the Ota City General Gymnasium and there 3,335 fans in attendance. The show was headlined by Hirooki Goto’s first defense of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and his challenger was Hiroshi Tanahashi.

The show also featured the return of Chris Charlton to the commentary desk. Charlton was placed on hiatus from the position after remarks he made about AEW President Tony Khan during Wrestle Dynasty.

  • NJPW World Television Championship — Open Challenge: El Phantasmo (c) (w/ Jado) def. Master Wato

  • BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Gedo, SANADA & Taiji Ishimori) def. Taichi, TAKA Michinoku & Yuya Uemura via DQ
  • BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Drilla Moloney & Gabe Kidd) vs. House Of Torture (Ren Narita & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) – Match ended via double count-out
  • Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, Tetsuya Naito & Yota Tsuji) def. House Of Torture (Dick Togo, EVIL, SHO & Yujiro Takahashi)
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: El Desperado (c) def. Francesco Akira
  • IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Hirooki Goto (c) def. Hiroshi Tanahashi 

After Goto retained, Tanahashi stated that maybe it changes the dynamics of the CHAOS and Hontai factions. He then asked for members of both groups to come to the ring.

Tanahashi told Goto to lead New Japan. The champion responded by saying he will. He then asked Yuji Nagata to come to the ring and granted him an IWGP World Heavyweight Title shot.
