Duprée heard the claim from Pat Patterson.
In 2003, the duo of René Duprée and Sylvain Grenier formed La Résistance. Rob Conway would eventually be added to the team.
Collectively, there were four WWE World Tag Title reigns between them. In 2007, Duprée and Grenier reappeared on television as a team for the rebrand of ECW. According to Duprée via his Café dé René livestream, there were plans for La Résistance to become ECW World Tag Team Champions.
Duprée went on to dive into his substance abuse issues he was dealing with at the time. He then mentioned an incident that happened in Ohio Valley Wrestling around the time of their WWE ECW appearance. The incident was Duprée’s testicles were shown on-camera after him and Grenier faced Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Kofi Kingston. Smith Jr., who joined Duprée on the livestream, remembers former OVW owner Danny Davis shouting at a cameraperson to get the shot off of Duprée.
Duprée: Just debuted on ECW the night before, and the plan was — this is a shoot because I heard it from Pat (Patterson), that they were gonna make ECW Tag Titles and give it to us (La Résistance). But, I had started developing (a) substance abuse problem and my lower back was hurting so I decided to take a couple muscle relaxers and I took a couple more and a couple more and a couple more and then me and Sly were facing off you and Kofi Kingston, right? And Sly had gotten me these brand-new pair of tights because Vince (McMahon) didn’t like the loose tights because I would flop around in the midsection area if you know what I mean. So Sly gets these extra small pair of tights that don’t fit. But I was also not in the right frame of mind. So, we have the match. I’ve never seen the match back and I don’t wanna see it back. That was like a rock bottom for me… I’m like celebrating and my scrotum is sticking out of my f*cking tights. I’m sorry again, Harry.
Smith Jr.: It’s okay. We did the match… Kofi and I got to the back first and you guys came second and Danny Davis, I could hear him screaming. Screaming on the headset but he was screaming at the cameraguy to get off the zoom shot of you and I don’t know if I want to repeat what he was saying but he’s like, ‘You stupid mother-effer. Get the camera off René!…’ And I come back selling. I kind of don’t know what happened and everyone’s looking around and then, I sit down and then right away, you gotta go up to Al (Snow) and be like, you know, ‘How was it?’ And blah, blah, blah and then, he was talking to Danny about something. I was like, ‘Okay’ and then, someone brought it up to me like a few minutes later. I’m like, ‘What!?’ And then you guys came through the back, and then I think I remember Al was saying something about, ‘You guys didn’t get heat because you did the finish but you didn’t do it behind the ref’s back’ or something like that… You’re like, ‘Well, if L.O.D. does their finish and their heels, did they do it behind the referee’s back?’ And then Sly’s like, ‘Yeah, but René, it’s more heat, it more heat brother… Yeah, well, thanks Harry.’ I said, ‘Okay. Thanks.’
Duprée: Honestly, Harry, I have no recollection of the match. I have no recollection of the night. All’s I know is that there’s a certain French-Canadian blonde that came to console me that night in my hotel room. I’m just gonna leave it at that.
The last ECW World Tag Team Champions were Danny Doring and Roadkill. They won the belts at Massacre on 34th Street in December of 2000.
