Janice Carter, mother of Dixie Carter, passes away

Janice Carter, the mother of Dixie Carter, has died.

Dixie made the announcement on her social media feed revealing that her mother had passed away with the following statement:

I’m heartbroken that my precious mama passed away last night. I’m heartbroken for all selfish reasons. I will miss her in more ways than I could ever count. It’s such a surreal feeling and I know the weight of it has not hit me yet. I will survive knowing she is with God and surrounded by her family in heaven. Please pray for our family as we have lost our Honies, our rock. She was the most amazing mom and I have been so blessed in countless ways by her. She loved her family fiercely and there was nothing more important except her love for God. She was beautiful, smart, a great businesswoman, giving, tough, and always helping others. I will live every day for the rest of my life trying to do the same and to make you proud. I love you so much, mama. I’m going to miss you like crazy!!

The Carter family found their way into professional wrestling through Dixie, who was running a publicity firm called Trifecta Entertainment. One of its clients was the nascent Total Nonstop Action (TNA) group out of Nashville, Tennessee in 2002.

TNA was in financial trouble several months after its launch when a large portion of its funding evaporated from the HealthSouth Corporation. Dixie saw potential in the outfit and pitched it to her father, Bob Carter, who ran Panda Energy.

Panda Energy became the majority owner of the company while Jeff & Jerry Jarrett held on to minority percentages. Dixie Carter would become president of the company while Jeff served as chief operating officer and Dean Broadhead became its chief financial officer.

Janice Carter did not directly work with TNA, although, existed in TNA canon after Abyss named his 2×4 of nails “Janice” as a reference to her.

We extend our condolences to the Carter family.
