More championships added to United Empire.
The IWGP Tag Team Championships were on the line at NJPW Sakura Genesis as Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi) put the titles on the line against United Empire (Jeff Cobb & Callum Newman).
In the end, it was United Empire leaving with the titles as Newman got the pinfall victory on Naito. Newman is now the youngest wrestler to ever hold the IWGP Tag Team Title(s). He is 22 years of age. They celebrated in the ring with fellow United Empire member Great-O-Khan, who won the World Television Title earlier in the night.
After the match, Jeff Cobb spoke to English commentators Walker Stewart and Chris Charlton and sarcastically brought up that he thought he was leaving New Japan Pro-Wrestling. In March, a report emerged from Fightful Select that Cobb’s name showed up on WWE’s internal roster. Cobb played into the speculation about his future in post-match interviews.
As for Tetsuya Naito, Tokyo Sports reported that he has been working as a freelancer for NJPW since the end of January 2025. At the time of the reporting, the outlet noted that a fourth round of contract negotiations would be taking place in the near future.
