Tsuji’s twin brother was in the mix.
The second to last bout on the NJPW Sakura Genesis card was the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship match that saw EVIL challenging the champion Yota Tsuji.
As ‘Tsuji’ was making his way to the ring, it was soon revealed that the individual in Tsuji’s gear was his twin brother, Shota. He was used to throw off EVIL and Dick Togo. The real Tsuji then snuck up behind House of Torture to offset a pre-match attack. Togo eventually dragged Tsuji’s brother away from ringside.
At one point in the match, Tsuji became distracted when Togo and Yoshinobu Kanemaru brought his brother back out to the ring. Shingo Takagi made his way to the ring to help with the numbers game.
Ultimately, Tsuji overcame the odds and retained the Global Heavyweight Title. Post-match, he called out Yuya Uemura but did not notice that Uemura had already been making his way to the ring before the callout. Uemura was nominated as the next challenger to the belt.
There have been 13 singles matches between Tsuji and Uemura since 2018.
