Jeff Cobb is leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The promotion issued a statement that the 42-year-old will wrap up this Saturday in a match against Hiroshi Tanahashi:
New Japan Pro-Wrestling has come to terms with the departure of Jeff Cobb at his request.
With Cobb one half of the IWGP Tag team Champions, those titles have now been vacated.
Cobb’s final match in NJPW will take place in Korakuen Hall on April 19 against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling profoundly apologises for the sudden nature of this news and joins fans in wishing Cobb the best in all his future endeavours.
The departure comes one week after Cobb won the IWGP tag titles with Callum Newman at Sakura Genesis from Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi.
It was announced that the tag titles are vacant and new champions will be decided on April 26 at NJPW’s Wrestling Redzone event in Hiroshima. Newman will team with stablemate Great O-Khan to face Bishamon’s Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI to determine the new champions.
Cobb has been wrestling with NJPW since 2017 and is currently a member of United Empire. His highlights include winning the IWGP tag titles three times and holding the NJPW Television & NEVER Openweight Championship.
His final match is this Saturday against Hiroshi Tanahashi at Korakuen Hall on the Road to Wrestling Dontaku tour.
